It’s an afternoon affair on getaway day at Camden Yards when the Orioles (6-6, 3-3 home) host the Athletics (3-9, 1-5 away) to wrap up a four game set on Thursday, April 13th. Opening pitch for this contest is scheduled for 1:05 pm ET in a game you can see on MASN and NBC Sports California.

Oakland notched their first road victory of the season on Wednesday night over the O’s, taking the ballgame 8-4 after squandering a 4-2 lead. The A’s had lost their previous five matchups on the road.

Below, you can find the Athletics vs Orioles odds for this series finale as well as our best bet and pick.

Athletics vs Orioles Odds

Team Moneyline Runline Total
Oakland Athletics +198 +1.5 (+100) O 9.5 (-110)
Baltimore Orioles -240 -1.5 (-120) U 9.5 (-110)

So far this season Oakland haven’t been the chalk in a single game. For this matchup, the Orioles are heavy -240 home favorites to bounce back from Wednesday’s loss. The over/under is set at 9.5 runs for two teams that have combined to average 12.7 runs per game in the first three games of the series.

It looks like it’ll be a perfect afternoon for a ballgame at Camden Yards with the forecast calling for temperatures of 81 degrees with limited wind and no chance of rain.

Oakland vs Baltimore Probable Pitchers

Likely getting the ball for the A’s on Thursday is Adam Oller, who would be making his first start of the season after making two long appearances out of the bullpen.

The 6’4, 225 pound righthander made his major league debut last season at 27 years of age. Oller had his fair share of struggles, going 2-8 with a 6.30 ERA in 19 games that included 14 starts.

Oller vs Irvin 2022 Stats

Adam Oller
VS
Cole Irvin
2-8 Record 9-13
6.30 ERA 3.98
1.63 WHIP 1.16
.280 OBA .251
1.18 SO/W Ratio 3.56

For the Orioles, Cole Irvin will be taking the hill, looking to improve on his first two starts of the season when he goes against his former team. The 29-year old had proved himself to be a valuable arm and inning eater for the A’s making at least 30 starts in each of the last two campaigns. It feels like Oakland’s loss is Baltimore’s gain.

If the Orioles are going to take another step after last year’s surprising 83 win season, they’ll need guys like Irvin to elevate their game to another level.

Athletics Struggling to Stay Competitive

For so long the Oakland Athletics (3-9, 1-5 away) have been able to stay competitive despite having one of the lowest payrolls in baseball year after year. That doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. Following a season where they lost over 100 games, the A’s have started 3-9 and are 50,000-1 in the World Series odds, tied for the longest odds in MLB with the Nationals and Rockies.

In the off-season, Oakland dumped their best every-day player, catcher Sean Murphy to Atlanta in a three-way deal that netted them journeyman catcher Manny Pina and four prospects.

Only two players in Oakland’s starting lineup against the O’s Wednesday night, Tony Kemp and Jesus Aguilar had at least 400 at-bats last year. Needless to say, this inexperienced squad is likely in for a long summer where they’ll be longshots in the MLB odds game after game.

Athletics vs Orioles Pick

Prior to Wednesday’s victory, the A’s had lost six in a row, all by at least two runs. Their average margin of defeat during that span was six runs, losing by a combined score of 54-18. It hasn’t been pretty.

With Irvin facing his old squad after being traded for a minor leaguer, there will be some added motivation on Baltimore’s side. I’m not sure they’ll even need it. Oakland got their win yesterday and whenever they get a victory it feels like an upset. Our prediction is that the O’s roll over the A’s easily in this one.

Pick: Baltimore Orioles -1.5 (-120)
