Philadelphia vs St. Louis H2H

The Phillies won four of seven from the Cardinals during the regular season. The teams split a four-game series from July 8-11 at St. Louis.

Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm hit .368 against the Cardinals, going 8 for 21 with a triple and two home runs. First baseman Rhys Hoskins went 9 for 25 (.360) with two doubles and three homers.

Though left fielder Kyle Schwarber led the NL with 46 home runs in the regular season, the Cardinals held him to 4 for 29 (.138) with one homer.

Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado was a tough out for the Phillies pitching staff, going 10 for 22 (.455) with a double, a triple and three home runs. However, shortstop Tommy Edman batted just .160 (4 for 25) with a double.

The Phillies have won the season series every year since 2018, going 18-11 in that span.

Philadelphia vs St. Louis Probable Pitchers

The Phillies will start right-hander Zack Wheeler in Game 1, per MLB lineups. He will be followed by right-hander Aaron Nola and left-hander Ranger Suarez.

The Cardinals have yet to announce their starters.

Wheeler (12-7, 2.82 regular season) is 1-0 with a 0.60 ERA in three starts since missing a month with right forearm tendinitis. He is 3-2 with a 2.65 ERA in six career starts against the Cardinals.

Nola (11-13, 3.25) is 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA in his past three starts. In nine starts against the Cardinals, he has a 5-3 record and 2.69 ERA.

Suarez (10-7, 3.65) has lost his two starts, allowing eight runs in nine innings, and is 1-2 with 4.80 ERA over his last three outings. If there is a Game 3, it will be his first career appearance against the Cardinals.

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol deployed his pitchers in the final days of the regular season in a manner in which any should be fresh for Game 1.

The three pitchers who have thrown the most innings since Sept. 1 are right-hander Miles Mikolas (12-13, 3.29) and left-handers Jose Quintana (6-7, 2.93) and Jordan Montgomery (9-6, 3.48).

The other starter possibilities are Adam Wainwright (11-12, 3.71) and Jack Flaherty (2-1, 4.25).

Cardinals vs Phillies Injuries

The Phillies are hopeful left-handed reliever Brad Hand (elbow) will be able to come off the injured list for Game 1. He had a 2.80 ERA and five saves in 55 games during the regular season.

Cardinals left fielder Tyler O’Neill won’t be able to be activated from the series as the Cardinals had hoped. He hit .228 with 14 home runs and 14 stolen bases in 96 games.

Right-handed reliever Jordan Hicks was activated from the IL on Wednesday after being out since Sept. 15 with right arm fatigue and neck spasms. He pitched one scoreless in a 5-3 loss to the Pirates in Pittsburgh.

In 34 games (eight starts), Hicks had a 3-6 record and 4.92 ERA.

Philadelphia vs St. Louis Betting Trends

The Phillies lost their final two games of the regular season after clinching their first playoff berth since 2011 and were 14-17 from Sept. 1 on. They were 62-46 as favorites and 25-29 as underdogs.

The Cardinals lost of their last four games and went 3-4 after clinching their first NL Central title since 2019. They were 66-32 as favorites and 27-37 as underdogs.

The winner goes on to play the #2 seed Atlanta Braves in the MLB playoff bracket.

Phillies vs Cardinals Series Prediction

The Cardinals have the better all-round team. However, the best team doesn’t always win in October. With the duo of Wheeler and Nola, the Phillies are primed to win this series on the road.

Pick: Phillies to Win Series (+114)
