  • The Marlins and Cubs continue a three game series on Saturday, May 6th
  • The Marlins swept the Cubs at home last week, winning each contest by a single run
  • Don’t miss the latest Marlins vs Cubs odds, probable starting pitchers, best bet and picks

Getting one back, the Cubs (16-16, 9-8 home) started off this series with the Marlins (16-17, 6-8 away) off on the right foot after getting swept by the Fish last week in Miami. Chicago took the series opener 4-1 Friday afternoon and these teams are right back at it for a matinee affair on Saturday, May 6th.

Opening pitch for the middle matchup of this three game set is scheduled for 2:20 pm ET at Wrigley Field and can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and Bally Sports Network.

Home teams have now won every matchup between these two this season. Have a look at the Marlins vs Cubs odds below as we also provide our best bet and prediction for this game.

Marlins vs Cubs Odds

Team Moneyline Runline Total
Miami Marlins +152 +1.5 (-140) O 9.5 (-108)
Chicago Cubs -180 -1.5 (+116) U 9.5 (-112)

Good pitching and inconsistent hitting have led to the Cubs going under the betting line in 10 of their last 11 games. In the last turn through the rotation they’ve allowed just 12 runs, and average of only 2.4 per game.

With one of their best hurlers, Drew Smyly on the mound, the Cubbies are -180 chalk on the moneyline to take a second consecutive game from the Marlins. Saturday’s forecast in Chicago is calling for temperatures of 57 degrees with the wind blow out at 13.9 miles per hour.

Miami vs Chicago (NL) Probable Pitchers

In his young major league career, the Marlins Bryan Hoeing has made only three starts and the last one was undoubtedly the best of the bunch. Luckily for him, he’ll be facing the same Cubs squad he limited to two runs in five innings of work last week.

The towering righthander looked great in the minors this year, sporting a 2.08 ERA with a 10.0 strikeout to walk ratio in three starts with Triple-A Jacksonville. He’s looking to make it uncomfortable for the Fish to send him back to the minors when Trevor Rogers returns to good health.

Hoeing vs Smyly Stats

Bryan Hoeing
VS
Drew Smyly
0-1 Record 3-1
6.23 ERA 2.83
1.90 WHIP 0.91
.306 OBA .205
1.2 SO/W Ratio 4.8

Along with Marcus Stroman, southpaw Drew Smyly will be counted on heavily to deliver quality starts for the Cubs this season and the early returns have been positive.

Since getting blow up in his season debut, the veteran has allowed just five earned runs in 30.1 innings of work. Keeping runners off the basepaths has been key to his success as he’s sporting a WHIP of just 0.91 through the first month of the season.

In his second season as a Cub, Smyly has proved dominant at Wrigley Field as opposed to pitching on the road. He has a 2.17 ERA in 12 stars in a Cubbies uniform at Wrigley and has kept opponents on base average under .200, limiting any potential damage.

Marlins vs Cubs Possible Lineups

Looking to add some power in their MLB starting lineups, the Cubs called up top first base prospect Matt Mervis for this series. The left-handed hitting Mervis, 25, was hitting .286/.402/.560 with six HR in 24 games at Triple-A Iowa. This following a season where he hit 36 bombs in three levels of minor league baseball.

Even though he’s yet to take a single big league at-bat, Mervis is +8500 in the NL rookie of the year odds and might be worth sprinkling some cash on in the hopes of a huge payout. Mervis drove in an insurance run in the Cubs’ 4-1 win on Friday with his first hit, a sharp single to right, in his major-league debut.

Marlins vs Cubs Prediction

Every Cubs player had hits against the Marlins on Friday except their last two hitters in the order, Patrick Wisdom and catcher Miguel Amaya. Batting just .229, Wisdom struck out in all four at-bats in the series opener, but has 1 dinger this year, good for second spot in the majors.

On the other side, if Smyly can keep Luis Arraez off the bases, he should have no trouble with the rest of the Marlins lineup. Arraez is hitting an incredible .437, the only hitter in baseball currently batting above .400, but only three of the Marlins’ other 12 players who have gotten in at least 10 games are hitting at least .260.

With a more experienced and accomplished pitcher on the mound, we like the Cubs to take this one in the MLB odds. The Marlins rank last in the National League in runs scored, and we don’t see them turning that stat around in this one.

Pick: Chicago Cubs Moneyline (-180)
