Maeda took the tough-luck loss against the Marlins in Miami but looked strong in his season debut after missing 2022 while recovering from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery. He struck out nine in five innings while giving up one run on three hits with no walks.

Maeda was pulled because of arm fatigue but got through his between-starts routine without issue.

Right fielder Joey Gallo could be back in the lineup after missing two games with soreness in his right side. An MRI showed no structural damage.
