The Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins renew their American League Central rivalry when they meet at 2:10 p.m. ET Monday at Target Field in Minneapolis in the opener of a three-game series.

The White Sox (4-6, 3-4 road) lost three of their last four games, including dropping a 1-0 decision to the Pirates on Sunday in Pittsburgh. The Twins (6-3, 2-1 at home), missed completing a three-game home sweep of the Houston Astros as they lost 5-1.

The game will be televised by MLB Network.

Cease pitched well in beating the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday at home. He allowed only one run and one hit in five innings with eight strikeouts but also five walks.

The Twins have given Cease some trouble. He is 3-4 with a 5.14 ERA in nine career starts against them.

Cease, who has +900 AL Cy Young odds, has a career road ERA of 3.74 as opposed to 3.30 at home. His ERA is 3.03 in day games and 3.96 at night.

Maeda took the tough-luck loss against the Marlins in Miami but looked strong in his season debut after missing 2022 while recovering from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery. He struck out nine in five innings while giving up one run on three hits with no walks.

Maeda was pulled because of arm fatigue but got through his between-starts routine without issue.

In five career starts against the White Sox, Maeda has a 2-1 record and 5.47 ERA.

Maeda pitches much better in home games with a 3.01 career ERA while his road ERA is 4.68 and he has a sparkling 2.03 mark in three games at Target Field. Maeda also has a 4.60 ERA in day games and 3.56 at night.

The Twins managed just two hits, one an RBI single by Donovan Solano, in losing to the Astros on Sunday.

Right fielder Joey Gallo could be back in the lineup after missing two games with soreness in his right side. An MRI showed no structural damage.

This will be the first meeting of 2023 between the teams after the Twins won last year’s season series 10-9.

Chicago first baseman Andrew Vaughn went 18 for 66 (.273) with two doubles and home runs. Buxton was 12 for 36 (.333) with one double, one triple, and four home runs.

While it is hard to face Cease, Maeda was awfully impressive in his first start coming off surgery and he is dominate at Target Field.
