The New York Yankees (16-6) face the Toronto Blue Jays (15-8) on Monday at the Rogers Centre. The series opener has a scheduled first pitch of 7:07pm ET. The Yankees will send Jordan Montgomery to the bump, while the home team counters with Ross Stripling.
Winners of nine straight, New York is a road favorite and has watched its odds to win the American League East move from +275 at the start of the season to +200 in the MLB Division odds.
Meanwhile, the Jays have won nine of 12 and have seen their favorite status in the division drop from +140 to +125. Manager Aaron Boone’s club is expected to win one more game (92.5 vs 91.5) than the Jays in expected victory totals – and currently hold a 1.5-game lead over Toronto in the AL East standings. Both teams won on Sunday.

Toronto Blue Jays | +1.5 (-175) | -104 | Un 8.5 (-118) |
Odds as of May 1st at Barstool Sportsbook.
Montgomery has pitched well in his first four starts, but New York is only 1-3 in his outings. The Yankees picked up that first one win his last time out. Montgomery went 5.2 innings on Wednesday against the Orioles, allowing four hits, an earned run, no walks and four strikeouts in an eventual 5-2 victory.
Stripling has had similar — and slightly better — luck for Toronto. The Jays are 2-1 in the 32-year-old’s starts (and 3-2 in his appearances) this season. However, the former All-Star was let down by his normally stout bullpen in his last outing on Wednesday against Boston, going five innings and allowing only five hits, an earned run, no walks and seven strikeouts in an eventual 7-1 defeat.
New York vs Toronto: Probable Pitchers
With his fellow starters coming out of the gate strong in 2022, Montgomery’s somewhat underwhelming first month has been easier to digest for Yankee fans. The 29-year-old has tossed 20 innings, allowing 14 hits, six earned runs, five walks and 15 strikeouts. Perhaps Montgomery’s most commendable achievement is allowing only one home run so far this season. Plus, there’s this:
Jordan Montgomery now has 20 no-decision since the start of 2021. That’s the most in MLB over that span.

As for Stripling, the journeyman has been nothing if not reliable for Toronto — a team with World Series hopes. In 15 innings this season, the Texan has allowed 15 hits, six earned runs and four walks against 12 strikeouts
Prediction: Ross Stripling is a regular member of the starting rotation for the Toronto Blue Jays before the end of this season.

Yankees, Blue Jays Set the Pace
This series is a juicy one, featuring two of the elite teams in the big leagues so far in 2022. The Yankees currently own the best record in baseball, thanks in large part to Aaron Judge. The slugger has crushed eight home runs this season (only one behind teammate Anthony Rizzo for the MLB lead) — including five over the last five games (and two titanic blasts on Sunday).

As for the Jays, manager Charlie Montoyo’s group is winning the close ones. The Jays have gone an MLB-best 9-2 in one-run games. Toronto has +775 odds to get to the Fall Classic (the shortest in the Junior Circuit), while the Yankees are +1400 in the World Series odds.

Yankees vs Blue Jays Prediction
It’s tough to bet against the Yankees right now — but that’s exactly what we’re doing in this spot. Bo Bichette is starting to get hot and the Jays are coming off taking a confidence-building three-game series at home against the Astros. I say that Rogers Centre mojo continue on Monday.
