The UFC heads to the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for UFC 272 on Saturday, March 5th, for a highly-anticipated welterweight grudge match between Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal. Covington is heavily favored to win in the UFC 272 odds.

The two used to be best friends, training partners, and roommates, but Covington allegedly never paid one of Masvidal’s coaches, and they have since hated one another, and now they finally settle their differences inside the Octagon.

UFC 272 airs live on pay-per-view at 10 PM EST. The table below shows UFC 272 odds for the main card at Barstool Sportsbook followed by best bets. If you’re looking to learn how to bet UFC, this is a great, undervalued card to try a few different strategies out.

Jorge Masvidal’s last win was in 2019 when he took down Nate Diaz at UFC 244 in New York. Since then he’s lost back-to-back fights against Kamaru Usman.

Covington vs Masvidal Odds, Prediction & Best Bet

Colby Covington vs Jorge Masvidal should be a fun fight week as talking to former coaches and training partners these two sincerely don’t like each other and want to hurt the other one badly. It also shows their star power. Non-title fight pay-per-view main events are usually reserved for McGregor or Diaz brothers only, so it shows how big these two are.

Masvidal
Kamaru Usman, loss by decision (title fight) Fight 1 Kamaru Usman, loss by KO (title fight)
Tyron Woodley, win by TKO Fight 2 Kamaru Usman, loss by decision (title fight)
Kamaru Usman, loss by TKO (title fight) Fight 3 Nate Diaz, win by TKO (BMF title fight)
Robbie Lawler, win by decision Fight 4 Ben Askren, win by KO

This fight is such an intriguing one as if it plays out on the feet, there is no question Masvidal is the better striker and has KO power. However, Covington’s pace and cardio are major weapons. He is a great wrestler who is relentless in looking to get takedowns, and should he get the fight to the mat, it favors him a ton.

Given the stakes of this fight, I do expect Covington to go for takedowns early. “Chaos” is not a fish out of water on the feet against Masvidal, but his chances of winning are slightly lower as Masvidal has legit one-punch KO power.

Right when the bell rings Covington will be right in Masvidal’s face and putting him on his back foot. The two will exchange some strikes and Covington will get a takedown, and use his control to land ground and pound on Gamebred.

Once the first round ends with Covington having taken and controlled Masvidal down, he will start feeling confident and I do think you will see him stand and trade with Masvidal for a full round and trash-talk him. Ultimately, Covington is a terrible matchup for Masvidal who I do think is on the decline at 37.

Chaos will end up getting a ground and pound TKO win in the fourth or fifth round to get the big win over his rival. Covington is priced at -325 in the UFC 272 odds at FanDuel Sportsbook if you’re looking for better value.

Pick: Colby Covington (-345)

dos Anjos vs Moicano UFC 272 Pick

The co-main event of UFC 272 was originally supposed to be Rafael dos Anjos vs. Rafael Fiziev but on Monday it was revealed Fiziev tested positive for COVID-19. On Tuesday, Renato Moicano, who just fought at UFC 271 on February 12 stepped up on four days’ notice to face dos Anjos in a five-round 160lbs catchweight fight.

dos Anjos & Moicano Recent Fights

dos Anjos
VS
Moicano
Paul Felder, win by split decision Fight 1 Alexander Hernandez, win by submission
Michael Chiesa, loss by decision Fight 2 Jai Herbert, win by submission
Leon Edwards, loss by decision Fight 3 Rafael Fiziev, loss by TKO
Kevin Lee, win by submission Fight 4 Marc Diakese, win by decision

Moicano pulled what he calls a ‘gangster move’ to step up to fight a former UFC champion in a five-round fight on four days’ notice. After the Brazilian won three weeks ago he said he wanted a quick turnaround and wanted a big name and gets his wish.

This fight is an intriguing one as both men don’t have much time to prepare for one another. On the ground, Moicano is the better grappler, but on the feet, the striking advantage has to go to dos Anjos. However, even on four days’ notice, I expect Moicano to be able to use his wrestling and grappling and unique striking to control the fight and win a decision. dos Anjos is 37-years-old and hasn’t fought since November of 2020 and his age and time off will catch up to him here.

Pick: Renato Moicano (+150)

Other UFC 272 Picks:

  • Edson Barboza (+128): Barboza is such a good striker and is strong at featherweight that he will be able to keep it standing and piece up Mitchell on the feet to win a decision.
  • Kevin Holland (-275): Holland is dropping down to welterweight and gets a favorable matchup as he will piece up Oliveira and get a first or second-round TKO.
  • Serghei Spivac (-210): Spivac needs to be worried about the first-round as Hardy could KO him early. However, I expect him to be able to wrestle Hardy and get a ground and pound TKO win in the second or third round.
