The surging Charlotte Hornets, who are 8-2 in their last 10 games, will be looking to hand Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers a fourth consecutive loss on Saturday as they battle it out in an Eastern Conference matchup. The tip-off is scheduled for 12:30 PM EST.

The Hornets are coming off a 125-114 win over the New York Knicks mid-week thanks to a valiant effort from Miles Bridges, who erupted in the fourth quarter. The Sixers, on the other hand, were beaten by the lowly Detroit Pistons on Thursday in a woeful shooting night.

Prior to Charlotte’s win against Philly in January, the 76ers had won a mind-boggling 16 games in a row against LaMelo Ball and Co.

Hornets Trending Upwards

Charlotte has definitely struggled at times this season, but they’re starting to win games at the best possible time. The Hornets are in ninth spot right now at 40-37, the exact same record as the Brooklyn Nets and Atlanta Hawks. More likely than not, James Borrego’s squad will find themselves in the play-in tournament for the second straight year and if they continue to play at a high level on both ends, anything is possible for this young squad.

The Hornets absolutely dominated the Knicks on Wednesday, with their star duo leading the charge. Bridges erupted for a team-high 31 points while scoring 14 in the final period alone, while LaMelo put up an insane statline of 20 points, 15 assists, and five rebounds. Charlotte didn’t exactly shoot it all that well from deep (34%) but the squad bodied New York inside, outscoring them 68-40.

The ball movement was a breathtaking sight as well, dishing out 39 assists in the contest which resulted in a lot of good looks and easy buckets. These next two matchups will be a tall task for the Hornets, visiting the Sixers and the Heat. They’re unbeaten in five on the road though, which is a terrific sign. Charlotte will welcome back Gordon Hayward here as well after he missed over a month due to injury.

Sixers Struggling

The early days of the Joel Embiid-James Harden era were scary, but the Philly duo have really slowed down. Well, more Harden than Embiid. The Beard is averaging 22.7 points, 9.6 assists, and 7.6 boards in 16 games with the Sixers, shooting a mere 34% from deep and just 41% from the field. He’s also failed to register over 20 points in two of his last three games, in which Doc Rivers’ squad both lost.

Thursday was truly a forgettable night for the 76ers, losing to a Detroit team that owns one of the worst records in the NBA. Embiid did his thing as he further solidified himself as an MVP candidate, balling out for 37 points and 15 rebounds. But, there was limited help, with only three other scorers finishing in double-figures, but the next closest was Harden with 18. The veteran guard couldn’t knock a shot down though, going 4 for 15 from the field and 2 for 9 from deep.

The Sixers looked to be in control against the Pistons until the fourth quarter came around as Saddiq Bey helped his squad outscore Philadelphia 29-15. Rivers’ bench also posted a dismal eight points compared to 39 for the Detroit second unit. There’s no doubt Harden must do more, especially in crunch time, but the rest of the rotation has to also step up if a deep playoff run is going to be in the cards.

Hornets vs 76ers Prediction

Charlotte is playing well, while Philly is not. However, I do think you’re going to see the Sixers bounce back. They’ve had their way with the Hornets over the years and will be motivated to end this losing skid in front of their home fans.

Pick: 76ers -6
