Will the new-look Los Angeles Lakers (28-32, 28-31-3 ATS) have any better luck against the new-look Dallas Mavericks (32-39, 22-36-3 ATS) than the older version of the club enjoyed?
Dallas has owned the Lakers in recent meetings. The Mavericks are 6-1 straight up and 7-0 against the spread in the past seven games against LeBron James and company.
However, both teams engineered blockbuster moves right before the NBA trade deadline that have certainly changed the look of who each club is putting on the floor.
Oddsmakers aren’t being swayed by the respective shake ups. They’re sticking with the Mavericks, who are set as four-point home favorites for this game. Dallas is 5-0 ATS in the last five at home when facing the Lakers.

Los Angeles vs Dallas Injury Report
In the NBA starting lineups for the Lakers as they beat Golden State in their last game, 60% of the starters consisted of newcomers to the team. DeAngelo Russell (Minnesota) and Jarred Vanderbilt and Malik Beasley (Utah), acquired in the Russell Westbrook deal, all were on the floor to start the game.
That’s likely to change on Sunday afternoon. Russell (ankle) is doubtful to play. Two other starters – power forward Anthony Davis (foot) and small forward James – are listed as probable for the Lakers.
Power forward Maxi Kleber (hamstring) and small forward David Bertans (calf) are out for the Mavericks. Kleber has been out since Dec. 13.
Reconfigured Lakers Still Rely On LeBron
King James is defying logic and Father Time. Recently crowned as the NBA’s all-time scoring leader, at 38 James is averaging 28.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game. In a January home game against Dallas, he just missed out on a triple-double. James finished with 24 points, 16 rebounds and nine assists.
He scored 38 points against the Mavericks on Christmas Day at Dallas.
Lakers list D'Angelo Russell (right ankle sprain) as doubtful for Sunday afternoon's game against the Mavs in AAC. Anthony Davis (right foot stress injury) and LeBron James (left foot soreness) are probable.

The status of Davis is intriguing. The Lakers are certainly a different team when he’s healthy and playing. He’s missed 24 games through injury this season. However, Davis is averaging 21.8 points and 12.5 rebounds in the last 11 games. He’s also blocking nearly two shots per game.
Mavericks Sacrificing Defense For Offense?
In their first three games in the backcourt together, Doncic and Irving have ramped up the Dallas offense. The Mavericks are averaging 130.3 points. However, in each of the last five games, the opposition has made at least 50% of their shots. Opponents are scoring a minimum of 114 points in each of those last five Dallas games.
Justin Holiday made his Mavericks debut and scored 15 points on 5-6 shooting from 3-point range. This tied his highest-scoring game in the first game of a season with a new team, tying the first game of his second career stint with Chicago on 10/19/17.

Signed from the pre-All-Star game buyout market, shooting guard Justin Holiday came through big-time in his Dallas debut on Thursday. He was good for 15 points off the bench. Holiday hit five-of-six from beyond the arc.
Lakers vs Mavericks Prediction
Vanderbilt will be drawing the assignment of guarding Doncic, the NBA scoring leader (33.2 ppg) and one of the top contenders in the NBA MVP odds. As much as recent outcomes seem to be making a bet on the Dallas to cover the point spread as the logical conclusion, the over is also a good play here.
Dallas is both scoring and coughing up points of late. Only three NBA teams are allowing more points per game than the Lakers (118.1).
