Odds taken May 25th. Note: Week 11 is the bye week for the New York Jets.

The Jets went 7-9 last season. Their first loss was a 17-16 setback taken against the Buffalo Bills on the Jets’ home field at MetLife Stadium. Opening the campaign 0-4, the Jets also posted their first victory at home, a 24-22 Week 5 decision over the Dallas Cowboys.

Jets Facing Strong Challenge

The schedule maker hasn’t done the Jets any favors this season. Their 2020 regular-season slate charts out as the third-toughest in the entire 32-team NFL in terms of strength of schedule.

Opponents scheduled to face the Jets this season average out of a projected total of 133.5 wins in NFL SOS. Only the Atlanta Falcons (136) and the New York Giants (135.3) face tougher sledding than the Jets in 2020.

New York’s AFC team is matched up against both the AFC and NFC West Divisions. That means the Jets will travel to Kansas City for a meeting with the reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs. As well, they’ll play host to the NFC champion San Francisco 49ers.

Factor in their home-and-home set with AFC East Division rivals the New England Patriots and a Week 15 trek to Los Angeles to face the Rams, and the Jets will see each of the last four teams to play for the Super Bowl.

In total, there are seven 2019 playoff teams that will oppose New York during the 2020 campaign.

How Low Will They Go?

Bookmakers are pegging the 2020 NFL win totals for the Jets at 6.5. Bettors will get -115 odds if they play the ‘Over’ on that total. An ‘Under’ wager is carrying odds of -105.

Only the Miami Dolphins (six wins) are rated lower than the Jets among AFC East clubs. Although the Jets did go over 6.5 wins last season, they’ve averaged a meager 5.3 wins over the past three seasons.

They’re listed as favorites in just four games this season.

When the Jets Will Win

Logically, the Jets figure to arrive home for a Week 4 meeting with the Denver Broncos staring at an 0-3 record. Currently, New York is listed as the 2.5-point chalk over the Broncos for that game.

However, it might not be the best bet for their first win of the season. Though the Jets won their last meeting with the Broncos, they are 1-3 in their last four against Denver, 4-8 in their last 12 and 5-10 over the past 15 games with the Broncos.

Week 5 against the Arizona Cardinals is the play. The Jets are 7-1 in their past eight against the Cards. In fact, the last time the Cardinals won a road game against the Jets was in 1975. That was when they were still the St. Louis Cardinals and Joe Namath was still the Jets’ quarterback.

Pick: Arizona Cardinals (+800)

For Starters, Bet on a Jets Loss

Week 1 is not a good week to wager on a Jets win. In the past four seasons, the Jets are 1-3 in season openers. In that span, they are 0-2 against this season’s opponent, the Buffalo Bills.

In last season’s opener, the Jets blew a 16-0 third-quarter lead in their 17-16 loss to the Bills. Kicker Kaare Vedvik missed an extra point and a field goal that would’ve swung the game in the Jets’ favor.

At Buffalo to open the 2017 season, the Jets were 21-12 losers.

Pick: Buffalo Bills (-263)
