  • Denver clashes with Seattle on Monday Night Football (Sept. 12, 8:15pm ET)
  • Russell Wilson is just one season removed from a 40-TD campaign
  • Read below for analysis and our favorite Broncos-Seahawks player prop bets

Depending on who you believe, either Russell Wilson wanted out of Seattle for a few years before he got his wish, or the Seahawks couldn’t get rid of him back in 2018 when they tried.

Regardless, there’s no love lost between Wilson and his former team, which makes the first Monday Night Football game of the 2022 season so intriguing. Wilson will lead his Denver Broncos into Seattle in a contest that is not short on star power.

In addition to Wilson, names like Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, Javonte Williams, DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are all going to be popular betting options in the player props market. We’ve identified out favorite picks below, starting with none other than Wilson himself.

Wilson’s over/unders dwarf Seattle pivot Geno Smith in every category. His total completions has been set four completions higher (22.5 vs 18.5), his passing yards are 44 yards higher (254.5 vs 210.5), and he’s a -130 favorite to throw multiple TD passes, whereas Smith is a +170 longshot.

Wilson and the Broncos are currently 6.5-point favorites in the Week 1 NFL odds, and carry an implied team total of 26. Wilson seems like the kind of guy who carries a major grudge, and I’m willing to bet he goes out of his way to show the Seahawks what they’re missing out on.

Pick #1: Russell Wilson Over 1.5 Passing TD

A big reason for why Russ wanted out of Seattle is the fact they ranked near the bottom of the league in early-down pass rate year after year. Pete Carroll implemented an archaic offensive scheme which focused way too heavily on running the football.

That won’t happen in Denver. The Broncos hired former Packers OC Nathaniel Hackett, who is a progressive offensive mind and will maximize Wilson’s skills.

Russ may have had a down season last year, but don’t forget he came back way too early from a finger injury and could barely grip the ball. He’s just one season removed from a 40-touchdown campaign, and the Broncos are not short on receiving talent. Wilson starts the year with the seventh-best NFL MVP odds.

Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy and Albert Okwuegbunam – more on him later – are excellent pass-catching weapons. Wilson is going to go off on Monday Night, and his TD prop is simply too low.

Pick: Russell Wilson Over 1.5 Passing TD (-130), 1 unit

Pick #2: Rashaad Penny Under 82.5 Rush + Receiving Yards

We may be high on Wilson, but we are down on his former teammate Rashaad Penny’s prospects in the rushing-plus-receiving yards market. First off, Penny is a two-down back who won’t be featured in passing situations or the two-minute drill.

Second, he’s a zero in the passing game. In 37 career games, he’s averaged 0.6 receptions and 5.5 receiving yards per contest.

Third, he may be an explosive runner, but his offensive line is putrid. The Seahawks grade out as Pro Football Focus’ worst offensive line heading into the season. They’re starting two rookie tackles, both from air-raid offenses, which doesn’t bode well for the run game. If Denver opens a lead, which is likely with the Broncos vs Seahawks odds currently listing Denver as a 6.5-point favorite, the run game could be deemphasized.

Pick: Rashaad Penny Under 82.5 Rush + Receiving Yards (-115), 1 unit

Pick #3: Okwuegbunam Strikes First

Okwuegbunam is locked into a heavy workload at tight end with rookie Greg Dulcich on IR. Okwuegbunam is an athletic freak and the exact type of player you want to target in the end zone. The 6-5, 255 pounder ran a 4.49 forty at the combine, and 23 of his 98 receptions in college went for touchdowns. I’m betting Wilson looks for him early in scoring position.

In terms of the anytime TD market, how can you not love Javonte Williams? He may have split carries with Melvin Gordon last season but, this year, it’s likely going to be his backfield. Williams scored seven times as a rookie, and should have no problem breaking through a Seahawks defensive line that grades out at 29th per PFF.

Picks: Albert Okwuegbunam First TD (+1300), 0.25 units; Javonte Williams Anytime TD (+105), 1 unit
