Eagles Choose Green Jerseys in Super Bowl 59 – See Which Jersey Color Has Won 16 of the Last 20 Super Bowls

- The Philadelphia Eagles are the nominal “home team” in Super Bowl 59 and get to choose their jersey color
- The Eagles have chosen to wear their “midnight green” jerseys against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59
- The Eagles are putting themselves on the wrong side of a longstanding Super Bowl trend by wearing green
The Philadelphia Eagles (17-3, 13-7 ATS) are slight underdogs against the Kansas City Chiefs (17-2, 9-10 ATS) in the Super Bowl 59 odds and, thanks to Philly’s choice of which jerseys to wear, the Chiefs will have the added mental advantage of knowing they’re wearing the same jersey color as 16 of the last 20 Super Bowl champions.
As the nominal home team for Super Bowl 59 (the AFC and NFC rotate each year) at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, the Eagles had their choice of jersey color. Nick Sirianni and company elected to wear their “midnight green” uniforms, which will leave the two-time defending-champion Chiefs wearing white.

In one of the inexplicable and crazy Super Bowl trends heading into the 2025 edition, the team wearing white has been victorious in 80% of Super Bowls since 2005 (16 of 20).
But there might be some method to the Eagles’ madness here. The last time the Eagles won the Super Bowl – a 41–33 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 52 in 2018 – they were wearing their green jerseys as Nick Foles made himself a household name.
Also, Kansas City, which has won back-to-back Lombardi Trophies and three of the last five championships, are responsible for two of the four victories by teams not wearing white in the last 20 years. In both Super Bowl 54 and last year’s Super Bowl 58 (both against the San Francisco 49ers), Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs won the Lombardi Trophy wearing their red uniforms. In Super Bowl 57 – against these same Eagles – Kansas City won wearing white.

The only other team to win the Super Bowl wearing non-white jerseys in the last 20 years was the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl 45 (a 31–25 wini over the Pittsburgh Steelers).
This is the type of trend that’s about sports psychology, not any actual on-field impact. The Eagles are clearly more comfortable in their greens and are also keenly aware that Kansas City chose red when given the opportunity last season. Despite the prevailing 20-year trend, this choice isn’t unexpected from Philly.
