Rodgers Brings Super Bowl Pedigree to Big Apple

While he may be on the back nine of his illustrious career, Aaron Rodgers brings an uncanny edge to the quarterback position not seen in New York since the days of Joe Namath. Though the days of #12 scrambling away from pressure to throw a laser 70 yards downfield may be over, his incredible accuracy and football IQ will elevate this Jets offense to new heights.

Rodgers joins a Jets’ offense already loaded with potential. 2023 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson has to be licking his chops. After all, the former Ohio State Buckeye just hauled in 83 catches for 1103 yards and 4 touchdowns with Zach Wilson, Mike White and Joe Flacco throwing him passes! Additionally, the Jets added former Packers WR Allen Lazard and former Chief Mecole Hardman in free agency. As seen in Tom Brady’s time in Tampa Bay, pairing a well-stocked, versatile receiving room with a veteran quarterback is a recipe for success.

On top of that, former Iowa State running back Breece Hall returns to the backfield to form a dynamic 1-2 punch with scatback Michael Carter. Rodgers finally has the type of weaponry he’s yearned for in Green Bay for a half-decade. However, a murderers row of challengers in the AFC could make a Super Bowl challenge unlikely in 2023.

Jets Updated Conference and Divisional Odds

With Rodgers at the helm of the offense, and Robert Saleh calling the defensive shots, this could be the most dangerous Jets team in decades. As such, Jets odds to win the AFC have improved to +850, making Gang Green the fourth-favorite to win in the NFL Conference Championship odds after the Chiefs, Bills and Bengals.

New York appears to be fairly priced in this market, as the aforementioned squads’ all boast top-tier quarterbacks smack dab in their primes. That being said, with five picks in this weeks’ NFL draft, and a standout defense led by Sauce Gardner, New York could even those odds quickly.

Updated AFC East Championship Odds

Team Odds
Buffalo Bills +130
New York Jets +250
Miami Dolphins +300
New England Patriots +750

Additionally, Gang Green’s odds to win the AFC East have risen from +263 in early March, to +250 in the NFL Divisional odds. Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills stand as the Jets’ direct challenge at +130 odds to win the AFC East, while the Miami Dolphins are also nipping at their heels at +300.

Although the idea of Rodgers and the Jets cutting through all of Kansas City, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Baltimore and the Los Angeles Chargers to take home the AFC crown seems far-fetched, there is value on the Jets to win the AFC East +250. Just be sure to get your bets in early before Joe Douglas can make any additional moves.

Rodgers Remains an NFL MVP Longshot

A 4-time winner of the NFL MVP award, Aaron Rodgers loves to silence the doubters. However, his price hasn’t changed since the trade to Gotham became official. Rodgers remains the seventh-favorite in NFL MVP odds at +1600.

The 39-year-old vet will have his work cut out for him to collect his 5th MVP trophy. Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, and reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes are the favorites at +700. Followed by Justin Herbert at +900, and newly crowned highest-paid player in NFL history Jalen Hurts at +1200. Though he’ll likely be successful in New York, Rodgers is unlikely to put up the Madden-like numbers necessary to bring home the NFL MVP in 2023. Spend your money elsewhere this season.
