As the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are preparing to face each other in the NFL Week 4 SNF game, both teams are looking to be healthier at the skill positions.

The Buccaneers are welcoming back WR Mike Evans from a one-game NFL suspension. They’ll also be getting WR Chris Godwin and WR Julio Jones back from the injury list.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs are reporting that WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling will also be playing. He’s been limited in practice this week due to a abdominal injury.

The 2-1 Buccaneers and the 2-1 Chiefs are both coming off their first loss of the season. The Buccaneers are listed as 1.5-point home favorites in this game.

Kansas City Chiefs Injury Report

The Chiefs are getting all the love in the NFL public betting splits. But they’ll be missing a key element from their attack again for this game. Kicker Harrison Butker has been out since injuring his ankle in Kansas City’s season-opening win at Arizona.

Valdes-Scantling is the only Kansas City starter with an injury designation. However, the team is optimistic that he will be playing Sunday night. He’s caught 10 passes for 105 yards this season. Valdes-Scantling has snared eight of those receptions for 92 yards in road games, so you might want to give him a look in the Chiefs vs Buccaneers player props.

Depth on the defensive front could prove to be an issue for the Chiefs. Backup defensive end Michael Danna (calf) is out. Fellow DE Joshua Kaindoh is questionable due to illness. As well, linebacker Willie Gay is serving a four-game NFL suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Injury Report

Wide receiver has proven to be a problem position for the Buccaneers all season long. This is the first week of the season that things are trending positively for Tampa Bay wideouts.

Getting Evans back from suspension was a certainty. But now it’s also apparent that both Godwin (hamstring) and Jones (knee) will be playing. However, it’s likely that both receivers will be on pitch counts.

It’s not all bouquets for the Tampa Bay receiving corps, though. Breshad Perriman (knee/hamstring) is out. Russell Gage (hamstring) is questionable, but expected to play. Former Dallas and Buffalo WR Cole Beasley has been activated by the Buccaneers

Buccaneers starting LDE Akiem Hicks (foot) is out. Starting LT Donovan Smith (elbow) is questionable.

How Could Injuries Affect Chiefs vs Buccaneers Betting Lines?

Through three games this season, the Buccaneers’ best offensive output is 20 points. Tampa Bay is #27 in total offense (892 yards) and tied for 22nd in scoring offense (17.0 points per game).

Getting Evans, Godwin and Jones back certainly should open up the diversification in the Tampa Bay attack. The Buccaneers are currently 26th in rushing offense (86.0 yards per game) and 22nd in passing offense (211.3 YPG).

When looking at the odds in the Chiefs vs Buccaneers picks, it’s worth noting that oddsmakers are seeing this game being decided by a margin of less than a field goal. At one point this week, the game was listed as a pick’em.

That could prove vital, because Butker’s absence is completely changing the outlook for the Kansas City offense. Butker is among the most accurate field goal kickers in NFL history. He’s hit on 90.2% of his field goals over his career. From 50+ yards, he’s 21-of-29 through six NFL seasons.

Butker’s replacement Matt Ammendola was released earlier this week. Through three games, he was 4-for-5 on field-goal attempts. But that’s only telling part of the story. Ammendola didn’t connect on a field goal longer than 31 yards. He also missed an extra point. The Chiefs opted to run a fake field goal in last week’s loss to the Colts, feeling it was a better gamble than having Ammendola try to boot the ball through the uprights.

On Butker’s only field-goal attempt of the 2022 campaign, he was good from 54 yards.

Former Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Matthew Wright will be Kansas City’s placement specialist on SNF against the Buccaneers.
