Well, Week 8 was a beatdown. Josh Allen and Gabe Davis didn’t come close to their projections, and Allen got crunched on the goal line to kill our TD scorer bet too.

Let’s just shake that off and move on.

We’ve got the other team at the top of the NFL hierarchy on tap in Week 9, as the Tennessee Titans visit the Kansas City Chiefs. Andy Reid is a straight-up wizard coming off a bye week, and their gameplan should be dynamite for Patrick Mahomes.

As for the Titans, after an 0-2 start, they’ve ripped off five straight wins in the not-so-meaty part of their schedule. This should be a good test to see if last year’s top seed in the AFC can compete with one of the favorites in the 2023 Super Bowl odds.

For our purposes, let’s dive into the NFL player props available and share a few of our favorite picks.

Odds as of November 6 at DraftKings Sportsbook

In the odds above, Patrick Mahomes has the only listed passing total of 276.5 yards and he’s favored to throw for over 2.5 touchdowns.

The highest rushing total goes to Derrick Henry at 87.5 yards, and the highest receiving total is given to KC’s Travis Kelce at 71.5 yards.

Prop #1: Mahomes Pass Yards and Edwards-Helaire Rush Yards

It’s never wrong to start your wagering with Patrick Mahomes, who is looking like one of the rightful candidates in the 2023 NFL MVP odds.

Prior to the bye, he shredded San Francisco to the tune of 25-for-34 passing for a season-high 423 yards and three TDs. He’s passed this yards total in three straight contests and four times this season.

Tennessee hasn’t exactly faced a murderer’s row of pivots during their win streak, with Davis Mills, Matt Ryan (twice), Carson Wentz and Derek Carr as their opposition, but three of those QB’s ripped through this passing yards total.

On the year, the Titans giving up seven yards per attempt, tied for 6th-worst in the NFL.

Another one worth tracking is Clyde Edwards-Helaire’s rushing yards prop. Sure, the guy is in a timeshare with rookie Isaiah Pacheco and veteran Jerick McKinnon, but CEH has crossed this total three of his last four and has failed to eclipse this mark just twice on the year.

Edwards-Helaire is averaging nine carries per game this season, so he’d only need to average three yards to make you a winner.

Picks:

  • Mahomes OVER 276.5 yards passing (-115); 1 unit to win 0.87 units
  • Edwads-Helaire OVER 25.5 rushing yards (-120); 1.5 units to win 1.25 units

Prop #2: Derrick Henry Rushing Yards

Not surprisingly, the Titans really took off once Derrick Henry got going. The Titans’ nimble-footed bruiser has rushed for over 100 yards in four straight games.

His best performance of the season to date happened last week against the Texans, when he carried a season-high 32 times for a season-best 219 yards with two TD scores.

The Chiefs have surrendered the 2nd-fewest rushing yards in the NFL — coincidentally, they trail only the Titans — with teams averaging 4.2 yards a carry. In the last two meetings, the Chiefs have been able to hold him under this total.

It might not matter this time around, as Henry is averaging 107.9 rushing yards per game which is tops in the NFL, and he’s the second-best yards per carry against stacked boxes this season.

Pick:

  • Henry OVER 87.5 rushing yards (+100); 1 unit to win 0.87 units

Titans vs Chiefs Touchdown Scorer Odds

There’s a reason that Travis Kelce and Henry are the odds-on favorites to hit paydirt. Kelce leads the NFL in receiving touchdowns with seven, and he’s scored at least one TD in nine of his last 10 appearances with KC as home favorites.

Henry, on the other side, has scored at least once in eight of his last nine road games.

Looking for a little more juice? Chiefs’ receiver Mecole Hardman has scored a major in each of the Chiefs’ last three Sunday home games.

Picks:

  • Henry ANYTIME TD scorer (-115); 1 unit to win 0.87 units
  • Hardman ANYTIME TD scorer (+295) ; 1 unit to win 2.95 units
  • Week 8 Record: 1-4; Overall SNF props record: 12-16, -3.94 units
