Commanders vs Lions Recent History
The Lions have won five of their last six games against the Commanders, including four in a row at home. Detroit won the last meeting 30-27 on Nov. 15, 2020, when Matt Prater kicked a 59-yard field goal as time expired at Ford Field.
Commanders Offense vs Lions Defense
Quarterback Carson Wentz looked rejuvenated last week while making his Commanders’ debut following an offseason trade with the Indianapolis Colts. He completed 27 of 41 passes for 313 yards and four touchdowns.
It was the first time Wentz had four TD passes in a game since 2017 when he played for the Philadelphia Eagles. He also became the first player in Washington history to throw four TDs in his debut with the team.

Wentz’s 24-yard touchdown pass to Jahan Dotson with 1:46 remaining gave the Commanders the victory. Dotson became the second rookie since 1970 and first since 2004 to have a game-winning TD catch in the final two minutes of his NFL debut.
Antonio Gibson had 130 yards from scrimmage with 72 receiving and 58 rushers. He could have another big game against a Lions defense that allowed the Eagles to average 5.5 yards an attempt last week and has given up at least 30 points in eight of 18 games under coach Dan Campbell.

Lions Offense vs Commanders Defense
Lions running back DeAndre Swift set career highs last week with 144 yards rushing on 15 carries and 175 total yards as he had three receptions for 31 yards. He could could be in for another strong outing and is worth considering in your Commanders vs Lions props. The Commanders allowed the Jaguars to average 6.8 yards a carry last week.

Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown continues to be Jared Goff’s favorite target. If St. Brown has at least eight receptions for an eighth straight game, he will join Antonio Brown and Michael Thomas as the only players in NFL history to do that.
Goff was 21-of-37 passing for 215 yards and two touchdowns and one interception against the Eagles. Running back Jamaal Williams set a career-high with two rushing touchdowns.
Cornerback William Jackson led the Commanders with nine tackles in the opener.
Commanders vs Lions Injury Report
Center Frank Ragnow (groin/foot) has been ruled out for the Lions. Swift (ankle) is questionable along with guard Jonah Jackson (finger), safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (hamstring) and CB Amani Oruwariye (back).

Commanders safety Kamren Curl (thumb) and guard Wes Schweitzer (hamstring) are questionable. Curl missed last week’s game.
Commanders vs Lions Prediction
Goff and Wentz were the first two picks in the 2016 NFL Draft with Goff being selected by the Los Angeles Rams and Wentz going to the Eagles. The two have matchup up twice and split those games.
Wentz seems to have found new life in Washington. Look for him to get the better of this matchup in our pick against the spread versus the Lions’ porous defense.
The Pick: Commanders +105 ML
