Ovechkin Game Time Decision vs Islanders on Saturday
The Capitals four game losing streak has coincided with a slump for their superstar captain, Alexander Ovechkin. The Great 8 hasn’t scored in four straight games, his longest goalless streak of the season.
Ovechkin did miss a couple of practices this week as he is nursing an upper body injury, but he was back out with the top line on Friday and will likely be a game time decision for Saturday’s matinee against the Islanders.

The Capitals sniper sits tied for second in the league in goals with 24 and has made the biggest move up the board in the Hart Trophy odds since the start of the season, as oddsmakers have him pegged as the 3rd betting favorite behind the Oilers dynamic duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
Islanders Home Underdogs Despite Better Play of Late
The Islanders appear to be settling into their new digs at the USB Arena and are finally getting healthy. They’ve won three in a row at home and are coming off a 3-2 win on Thursday against the Devils where they were missing Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Sebastian Aho who both were by their wives sides to welcome their new kids into the world.

They’re getting no love from oddsmakers despite their improved play. The Isles are in last place in the Metropolitan Division, but are sitting just outside the top eight in the NHL playoff odds, currently in the 9th spot despite being tied for 13th in the Eastern Conference entering Friday night’s action.
Although they’ve won three in a row, the victories have been against Buffalo, Edmonton and the aforementioned Devils, three of the poorer and most struggling teams in the league.

Capitals vs Islanders Betting Trends
In the Covid shortened season last year, Washington took six of eight contests from the Islanders so they’ve had New York’s number as of late. One of the more interesting stats when looking at previous meetings between these two is that the underdog has won 15 of the last 20 games.
The Capitals have had a lot of success wherever the Islanders have played the last few years, as they are 8-3 when playing New York on the road. We’ll see if that continues with New York playing its best hockey of the season right now.
Longest current win streak in the metro division: New York Islanders.
Points in 10 of last 12 games: New York Islanders
9 game point streak: Mat Barzal
5-0-2 in last 7 home games: New York Islanders

Capitals vs Islanders Prediction & Best Bet
All signs point to the Islanders in this one, but I think it’s time for Washington to snap their losing streak whether that’s with or without Ovechkin in the lineup.
Although the Islanders were victorious against the Devils on Thursday they were outshot after not playing in 12 days and needed a late Mathew Barzal goal to win it.

They’re playing a Caps team that’s starving for a victory and I expect Washington to pounce on an Islanders team that still might be a bit rusty after a lengthy layoff. Take the Capitals moneyline at -134 in the Barstool Sportsbook Capitals vs Islanders odds.
