Two old, bitter rivals clash on Saturday from Pittsburgh.

Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00pm ET at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The game is televised on ABC.

Pittsburgh So Tough To Figure Out

Pittsburgh plays like a constant yo-yo. Just when the Penguins look down and out, they come up with a gem on the road in Colorado of all places on Wednesday night. That keeps Pittsburgh on the good side of the bubble. Even with the loss to Dallas the following night, Pittsburgh looked better on this mini-road trip.

With every game being so important, Pittsburgh must trust their offensive process. The Penguins generated 40+ shots in three straight contests, but only came away with one win in Colorado. Washington figures to have as many defensive issues as Pittsburgh, if not more. .

Will the night of rest help Pittsburgh against Washington on Saturday night? That is a great question. Pittsburgh helped itself by converting a few more scoring chances than usual on Wednesday night. However, the same old problems resurfaced on Thursday night.

Tristan Jarry expects to start on Saturday night. The Vezina Trophy futures slip away from the goaltender as his numbers slip slide away. Pittsburgh needs the goaltender to make that extra, crucial save in games. This is especially true on Saturday night.

Washington Needed John Carlson Back In the Worst Way

Behind a power-play goal and assist, John Carlson cemented his return in the only way he could on Thursday night. He produced offensively. This allowed Washington to enjoy a burst of laughter against the Chicago Blackhawks. Now, this 6-1 Washington victory helped keep the Capitals without shouting distance of the final wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Capitals need to put together some kind of run as the final ten games are upon us. With nine games left, the maximum points Washington can get is 94. Most years, 95 or greater have been kind of a playoff cutoff. However, this year is a little different.

Fortunately, with Carlson back, the triumvirate is healthy for the first time this season. If not for the unfortunate skull fracture, Carlson might have been able to contend in the Norris Trophy race. Did we mention that Darcy Kuemper is healthy again for Washington?

Suddenly, a regulation win pulls the Capitals to within two points of Pittsburgh. It is a long shot but never say never in the race for a playoff spot.

Capitals vs Penguins Prediction

The Penguins keep shooting at goaltenders. Can Darcy Kuemper withstand the heat on national TV? Hey, Kuemper won a Stanley Cup last year in Colorado. It expects to be quite the intriguing battle in Pittsburgh.

Penguins vs Capitals Same-Game Parlay Picks

Pick Odds
Pittsburgh Moneyline -140
Under 6.5 Goals -110
PARLAY ODDS  +227

The game expects to show a good deal of pace from both teams at times. However, the likelihood of the teams ramping up the playoff-like intensity is elevated too.

Pittsburgh needs to stay out of the penalty box with how lethal Washington is on the power play. With the adrenaline wearing off for John Carlson, we may find out a bit more about the Capitals’ top defenseman on Saturday. Pittsburgh must stop squandering scoring chances.

Pick: Under 6.5 Goals (-110)
