It’s a rare mid-week matinee when the Flyers and Leafs meet up at Scotiabank Arena on Thursday. Both teams will be looking for their second win in a row.

After a four game losing streak, Philadelphia has won two of their last three. That includes a comeback win over the Blue Jackets on Tuesday, where they scored three unanswered goals while down 2-1.

Toronto was looking a little bit vulnerable, dropping games to the Rangers and Capitals. Then they came out with a statement win over the Lightning on Tuesday. That victory solidified their hold on second in the Atlantic Division for the time being.

Things get underway at 2:00 pm ET from Toronto on Thursday.

Flyers vs Leafs Odds

Game Time (ET) Team Puck Line Total Moneyline
Thursday, December 22nd Philadelphia Flyers +1.5 (+106) Ov 6.0 (-110) +265
2:00 PM Toronto Maple Leafs -1.5 (-129) Un 6.0 (-110) -345

Odds as of December 21st from  Barstool Sportsbook. Be sure to check out the Barstool Sportsbook promo code ahead of puck drop.

The Leafs open as favorites by virtue of their home ice advantage. Before dropping two in a row, Toronto had been scoring consistently, scoring four or more goals in their last four wins. Their defense made betting the over futile though, as they had allowed four goals over that same stretch with three shutouts.

Toronto sits sixth in the Stanley Cup Odds, while the Flyers are a distant 28th. A total of nine goals were scored in Philly’s loss to the Rangers, while eight were scored in Tuesday’s win over Columbus. Three of the Flyers’ last five games have seen at least eight goals combined.

Philadelphia Flyers Betting Trends

Philly has played their last two games at home, and now embark on a five game road trip. They’ll play Toronto and Carolina before the Christmas break.

The Flyers were massive underdogs against the Rangers over the weekend, but were heavy favorites against Columbus. John Tortorella’s team is nine points out of sixth in the Metropolitan Division and has plenty of work ahead of them if they want to climb back into the playoff conversation.

Flyers: Last Five Games

Opponent Final Score Flyers  Moneyline Over/Under
Dec 20 vs CBJ 5-3 PHI -175 6.5 (Over)
Dec 17 vs NYR 6-3 NYR +108 5.5 (Over)
Dec 15 @ NJD 2-1 PHI +300 6.5 (Under)
Dec 13 @ COL 3-2 COL +233 6.0 (Under)
Dec 31@ ARZ 5-4 (OT) ARZ -115 5.5 (Over)

Carter Hart is doing everything he can to keep the Flyers afloat. While his 2.82 GAA is on the high side, his .912 save percentage sits just outside the top ten. Despite having the highest Expected Goals Against marks, Hart sits 13th in GSAA.

Tortorella created a bit of drama for himself against the Rangers, benching leading scorer Kevin Hayes. He also sat him for the third period against the Devils. Hayes played on Tuesday and failed to record a point in 14:25 of ice time.

Toronto Maple Leafs Betting Trends

Auston Matthews got back on the scoresheet for the Leafs on Tuesday, netting his 17th goal of the season. Matthews has been picking up the pace lately with eight goals in his last 11 games.

Not surprisingly, Toronto has only lost five times when Matthews scores, with four of those coming in overtime.

Maple Leafs: Last Five Games

Opponent Final Score Maple Leafs  Moneyline Over/Under
Dec 20 vs TB 4-1 TOR -140 6.5 (Under)
Dec 17 @ WSH 5-2 WSH -140 6.5 (Over)
Dec 15 vs NYR 3-1 NYR -125 6.0 (Under)
Dec 13 vs ANA 7-0 TOR -550 6.5 (Over)
Dec 10 vs CGY 5-4 (OT) TOR -165 5.5 (Over)

Toronto’s hot play has made it hard to list them as an underdog lately.

After a slow start in October (4-4-2), the Leafs have really turned it on. They are a combined 16-3-4 over the last two months, and entered Tuesday with a +31 goal differential over that stretch.

Both Matt Murray (2.46 GAA, .924 SV%) and Ilya Samsonov (1.98 GAA, .929 SV%) have been outstanding in net for Toronto.

Flyers vs Leafs Pick

The Leafs had been riding high defensively before those back-to-back losses. And with a low-scoring team like the Flyers coming to town, Toronto should be able to play from ahead.

Flyers vs Leafs: Same Game Parlay

Bet Odds
Maple Leafs -1.5 -129
Auston Matthews to score -148
Parlay Odds via Barstool +150

With how the Leafs’ offense has been clicking lately, this is a parlay to trust.

But as automatic as Matthews scoring is, there’s always a chance that he doesn’t light the lamp. If you’re shying away from making multiple bets, the Leafs to win by two is worth it for the value.

The Pick: Maple Leafs -1.5 (-129); 1 Unit
