The high-stakes action at the ATP Montreal Men Singles tournament has narrowed down to the semifinal round, featuring the consistent Spaniard, Rafael Jodar, squaring off against hard-hitting American challenger, Brandon Nakashima.
Jodar, currently World No. 15 and comfortably sitting at No. 10 in the year-to-date ATP Race rankings, enters this match as the decisive favorite, leaning on his superior seasonal consistency. Nakashima, positioned at No. 31 in the world, will rely on his aggressive service game and baseline firepower to pull off the upset.
The books don’t really like the American’s chances, as he’s a hefty underdog int the first-ever meeting between the two semifinalists.
Jodar vs Nakashima goes Wednesday night (August 11) at 6pm ET from Center Court at IGA Stadium in Montreal, with the Tennis Channel providing the broadcast coverage in the US, and Sportsnet carrying the matches in Canada.
Jodar vs Nakashima Prediction
- Moneyline Pick: Jodar -3.5 Games (50¢ at Kalshi))
While taking Jodar on the moneyline at -250 is too chalky to be worth the wager, the game spread at +100 presents a massive improvement in value.
The 52-week profile strengthens the case that Jodar can create enough separation to clear this number. Nakashima owns the bigger serve — 0.74 aces per game, a 66.5% first-serve rate and an 85.6% service-games-won mark — but Jodar’s edge on return is substantial. He has created 0.75 break points per game compared with Nakashima’s 0.47, wins 35.2% of return points against first serves compared with Nakashima’s 26.2%, and has taken 33.0% of return games versus Nakashima’s 18.9%. That return-game gap is the cleanest statistical reason to prefer Jodar on the handicap rather than simply laying the moneyline.
Jodar’s broader efficiency metrics also point to the higher ceiling. His 1.550 dominance ratio, 1.770 breakpoints-prevail mark and 2.580 match-efficiency rating all sit comfortably above Nakashima’s 1.221, 1.297 and 1.228 marks, respectively. The Elo board backs up that gap from a competition-adjusted angle: Jodar is No. 5 on the ATP Elo list at 2000.9, while Nakashima is No. 30 at 1857.1. That 143.8-point overall Elo advantage is meaningful in a best-of-three format, and even on hard courts specifically Jodar still leads 1903.1 hElo to 1814.0.
Recent results make the handicap case even stronger. Jodar’s Montreal run has come through quality opponents, including straight-set wins over Arthur Fils, Jiri Lehecka and Lorenzo Musetti after opening with a three-set comeback against Corentin Moutet. Nakashima has also stacked wins, but his path included three-setters against Arthur Rinderknech and Titouan Droguet before a cleaner win over Luciano Darderi. In other words, Nakashima is dangerous and match-tough, but Jodar has been beating the stronger tier of opponent more efficiently this week.
Jodar vs Nakashima Props
- Game Total Pick: Over 22.5 Total Games (48¢ at Polymarket)
Although I expect Jodar to win, Nakashima’s serve profile is the reason I still want exposure to the Over. His 85.6% service-games-won rate, 76.7% first-serve-points-won mark and low 0.08 double faults per game suggest he can bank enough holds to keep at least one set tight, even if Jodar is the superior all-around player.
The Over is not built on Nakashima dominating the matchup; it is built on his serve buying him time. A 7-6, 6-4 result gets to 23 games, while any three-set path almost certainly clears the number. Jodar’s 52.2% tiebreak win rate also gives him a meaningful edge if one set gets that far, which supports the match-winner lean without killing the total-games angle.
The fact that the total is set at 22.5 suggests the bookmakers expect a relatively efficient Jodar win. However, Nakashima’s hold rate and first-serve production are strong enough to stretch the scoreboard before Jodar’s return advantage ultimately decides it. By leveraging the more favorable +108 odds found on this prop (Kalshi price equivalent), the risk is minimized while the potential return is maximized compared to the sportsbook standard of -120.
Jodar vs Nakashima Odds and Splits
SPORTSBOOK
The market assessment of this semifinal match clearly pegs Jodar as the substantial favorite. Converting the lines to American odds, Jodar sits at a hefty -250 on the moneyline, demanding considerable juice for the outright win. Nakashima, meanwhile, offers an enticing +200 payoff for the upset.
he game spread is set at 3.5 games. Betting on Jodar requires him to cover a -3.5 game spread, returning 2.000 on the investment. Conversely, Nakashima has a sturdy +3.5 game spread, priced at 1.727. The total games line is delicately set at 22.5.
