Rockies vs Nationals Probable Pitchers
Freeland battled a cold on Tuesday in the Steel City, going 4.1 innings and allowing only a pair of hits, an earned run and two walks while striking out six before being lifted in an eventual 2-1 Colorado win over Pittsburgh. The Rockies are 5-4 in the 29-year-old’s starts this season and he owns three quality starts in 2022. The 6-foot-4 lefty has been especially solid in May, going 1-1 with a 3.54 ERA with the Rockies owning a 4-1 mark in his five turns.

Gray – who joined the Nats as part of the Max Scherzer-Trea Turner deal last summer – has been inconsistent in his first full season in Washington. Gray is coming off a three-inning outing against his former club on Tuesday, allowing five hits, seven earned runs and three walks while striking out five and surrendering three long balls in an eventual 9-4 defeat.
On July 29th last year, Trea Turner was traded to the Dodgers in exchange for Josiah Gray, Keibert Ruiz and others.

The rough outing followed the second of two quality starts Gray has posted in May, a month in which the 24-year-old has alternated between good and bad turns. His best performance of the season came on May 1st against the Giants, when he went six innings and only allowed one hit in an 11-5 victory. Gray’s problem has been the big fly: he’s allowed 12 in only 46.1 innings.

These teams split a doubleheader on Saturday, with the home team destroying the visitors 13-7 in the opener, then Colorado held Washington’s bats in check in the nightcap, winning 3-2. Victor Robles was the big star in Game 1, driving in six runs (including his first homer of the year).
6 RBI and it's only the 4th! 😱

Rockies starter Chad Kuhl was the star of Game 2. The righty scattered seven hits over 6.1 innings, allowing only a pair of runs and a walk while striking out seven (including Juan Soto twice) as he improved his record to 4-2 and his ERA to 3.56 in this budding breakout season for the former Pirate.

Rockies vs Nationals Prediction
Another factor going into Sunday’s series finale has to be CJ Cron. Colorado’s budding slugger went a combined 4-for-8 on Saturday, including launching his 13th home run of 2022. Gray is on schedule for a positive outcome, but Freeland is feeling better and dealing in his last outing.
That combination of factors has me liking the Rockies on getaway day.
