  • Continuing a long homestand, the Orioles open a four game set against the Angels on Monday, May 15th
  • The Orioles offense has gone missing recently, as they’ve hit the under in six of their last seven
  • We dish out the Angels vs Orioles odds below, probable starting pitchers and our best bet

Struggling on offense of late, Baltimore (26-14, 13-6 home) will get no breaks from the Angels (21-20, 11-11 away) when they open up their four game series on Monday, May 15th. First pitch is at 6:35 pm ET and one of the American League’s favorites in the Cy Young odds, Shohei Ohtani will be on the mound for the Angels.

In their last eight games, the Orioles have scored only 20 runs, a paltry 2.5 per game. Facing the electric Japanese sensation won’t make things any easier.

Television coverage for this game will be provided by Bally Sports Network and MASN. Have a peak at the Angels vs Orioles odds below as we offer up our best bet and prediction.

Angels vs Orioles Odds

Team Moneyline Runline Total
Los Angeles Angels -135 -1.5 (+120) O 8 (-110)
Baltimore Orioles +115 +1.5 (-140) U 8 (-110)

As is the case most of the time that Ohtani takes to the bunk, the Angels are moneyline favorites at -135 odds.

A heavy favorite in the MVP odds, the under is 3-0-1 in Ohtani’s last four starts against a team with a winning record and 6-0-1 overall in the O’s last seven games. Game time temperatures should be a beautiful 76 degrees with sunshine until later in the evening.

Los Angeles (AL) vs Baltimore Probable Pitchers

After leading his team to victory at the World Baseball Classic, Ohtani has continued his terrific form on the mound. He ranks among the top five in the American League in both strikeouts and WHIP and is tops in strikeouts per nine innings.

Showtime is limiting opponents to a .143 batting average this season, allowing a league low 4.3 hits per nine innings. Any struggles he’s incurred have mainly come due to poor control. He leads the league in wild pitches and hit batsmen and is on pace to go way over his career high in walks.

Nevertheless, his ability to punch out batters gets him out of trouble more often than not and is a huge reason why the Halos are usually chalk in the  MLB odds with Ohtani on the mound.

Ohtani vs Rodriguez Stats

Shohei Ohtani
VS
Grayson Rodriguez
4-1 Record 2-0
2.74 ERA 5.08
0.91 WHIP 1.55
.143 OBA .284
3.3 SO/W Ratio 2.9

Although Baltimore’s bats have fallen silent in their last seven games, they usually come alive whenever rookie Grayson Rodriguez is on the hill. Despite owning a rather large 5.08 ERA, Rodriguez is undefeated in seven starts this season, with a 2-0 record.

Over those outings, the Orioles have scored a total of 47 runs, just under seven per game.

Rodriguez was selected with the No. 11 pick in the 2018 draft and has been dominant in the minors. The rookie relies mostly on his fastball and changeup, but also throws a plus slider that gets a fair share of swings and misses. He’s averaging a very impressive 11 strikeouts per nine innings in his freshman season.

Orioles Have Angels Number in MLB Odds

Monday’s contest will be the first time these two sides have faced each other this season, after the Orioles dominated the head-to-head battle last year, winning six of seven encounters.

Angels vs Orioles Last Five Games

Date Away Team Home Team Result
07/10/2022 Angels Orioles BAL, 9-5
07/09/2022 Angels Orioles BAL, 1-0
07/08/2022 Angels Orioles BAL, 5-4
07/07/2022 Angels Orioles BAL, 4-1
04/24/2022 Orioles Angels LAA, 7-6

Camden Yards was particularly inhospitable to the Halos last campaign, as they went 0-4 in Baltimore and have lost six straight as visitors against the Orioles. Baltimore has the fourth best home mark in baseball this season.

Angels vs Orioles Predictions

There aren’t many MLB starting lineups that have been much worse swinging the sticks than the Orioles of late, but they’re pitching has kept them competitive, as they’ve only allowed 21 runs in their last eight games.

During that span, Baltimore has combined with their opponents to average just 5.1 runs per game. It’s tough to bet against Ohtani, but our best prediction here is to ride the under as Baltimore has been hitting it consistently. It’s highly unlikely that trend changes going up against one of the best pitchers in baseball on Monday.

Pick: Under 8 Runs (-110)
