Twins vs Rays Probable Pitchers
Bailey Ober (3-2, 2.33) is scheduled to start for the Twins and face Yonny Chirinos (2-1, 2.79), who is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Durham. Ober will be pitching on five days of rest and Chirinos on three.
Ober vs Chirinos
3-2 | Record | 2-1 |

3.61 | xERA | 4.96 |
0.97 | WHIP | 0.97 |
3.64 | SO/W | 1.00 |
Ober is 0-2 with a 3.38 ERA in his last three starts but pitched six shutout innings against the Cleveland Guardians last Friday in a no-decision at Minnesota. He yielded four hits, struck out three and walked none.
This will be Ober’s first career appearance against the Rays.
Ober has won both road starts this season with a 0.69 ERA. He is 1-1 with a 2.84 ERA in four starts during the day. Ober has posted quality starts in four of his eight outings and the Twins have a 5-3 record when he pitches.

Chirinos has pitched seven times for the Rays this season, including once as a starter. At Durham, he was 0-1 with a 5.66 ERA in five games (four starts).
Chirinos was limited to three innings on Sunday in his last start for Durham against Jacksonville in the International League so he could work on short rest Thursday. He did not allow a run while giving one hit, striking out five and walking one in a no-decision.
In his lone major-league start this season, Chirinos did not factor in the decision May 5 against the New York Yankees at the Trop. He was charged with three runs in 5.1 innings in a game the Rays won 5-4.
Chirinos is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA against the Twins in two career starts.
At the major-league level this season, Chirinos is 0-0 with a 3.24 in two games (one start) at home. He held the Chicago White Sox in three innings of relief April 29 in his lone appearance in a day game.

Twins Batters | Batting Average vs Yonny Chirinos |
---|---|
Jorge Polanco | .333 |
Max Kepler | .000 |
Christian Vazquez | .000 |
Carlos Correa | .000 |
The four Twins hitters on the active roster who have faced Chirinos are just 1 for 14 (.071). No Rays have ever batted against Ober in the big leagues.

Randy Arozarena led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a home run to give the Rays a walk-off win over the Twins on Wednesday night.

Rays reliever Calvin Faucher was placed on the injured list before the game with right elbow inflammation. Right-hander Luis Patino was recalled from Durhan.
Twins infielder Royce Lewis returned to action and played shortstop after sitting out one game with a forehead laceration sustained in a collision on the bases. He went 1 for 4 and drove in the Twins’ lone run with a tying single in the top of the ninth.
The Twins managed just three hits and have a total of seven in losing the first two games of the series.

Twins vs Rays Prediction
Chirinos is a bit of a wild card but backing the Rays at Tropicana Field has been quite profitable. The Rays’ 28-6 home record through 34 games is the best in the major leagues since the New York Yankees were also 28-6 in 1998 at Yankee Stadium on their way to a World Series title.
Pick: Rays -170 ML
Season Record: 26-10 (+14.1 units) ML; 2-2 (0.0 units) RL; 2-1 (+1.0 unit) O/U; 0-1 (-1.0 unit) same-game parlays; 1-1 (+1.0) player props; 31-15 (+15.1 units) overall
