A crucial contest goes down at the American Airlines Center between the Golden State Warriors (37-36, 8-29 away) and Dallas Mavericks (36-36, 22-14 home) on Wednesday, March 22nd, but the hosts could be without their two best players.

Tipoff is set for 7:30 pm ET for a game that will be broadcast on ESPN, but will likely lack the star attractions fans might have anticipated when first glancing at this matchup.

Both Luka Doncic (left thigh strain) and Kyrie Irving (right foot soreness) are listed as questionable with the former having missed the Mavs’ last five games. Dallas has gone 2-3 without Luka, whose NBA MVP odds are fading more and more with each game he sits.

Warriors vs Mavericks Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Golden State Warriors -1.5 (-110) -120 OFF
Dallas Mavericks +1.5 (-110) +100 OFF

The Warriors currently sit just a half game in front of the Mavs, keeping them in the 6th spot in the West and avoiding the play-in tournament in the NBA playoff bracket.

Having just ended an embarrassing 11 game road losing streak, the Warriors are small 1.5-point favorites against what is expected to be an undermanned Dallas team.

Road Woes Huge Issue for Defending Champion Warriors

It’s baffling how terrible this Golden State team has been away from home this season. Their road struggles are the main reason they aren’t perched higher in the NBA championship odds, as they currently just slide in amongst the top 10 contenders.

Entering Tuesday’s action, Stephen Curry’s side had the 13th best record in the Association. However, when it comes to their road mark, they are keeping company with the worst four teams in the league. Luckily for the Dubs, they have the 3rd best home record in the NBA, allowing them to stay afloat in the NBA playoff odds.

Worst NBA Road Records*

Team Away Record League Rank
Charlotte Hornets 11-26 26th
Golden State Warriors 8-29 27th
Detroit Pistons 7-27 28th
San Antonio Spurs 6-27 29th
Houston Rockets 6-28 30th

*Prior to Tuesday’s games.

At least they can take a small measure of confidence off Monday’s win over Houston, their first on the road since January! It wasn’t exactly a standout performance, as the Warriors kept the Rockets in the game with a litany of first-half turnovers before pulling away in the 4th quarter.

Curry and Klay Thompson combined for 10 triples and 59 points to lead the way for Golden State, and unlike their opponents, at least their squad is in good health for the most part, although Andrew Wiggins continues to be away from the team due to personal reasons.

Kyrie Irving Hasn’t Pushed Mavericks to New Heights

It’s now been almost 20 games since the Mavericks made a huge splash, acquiring Kyrie Irving in a blockbuster trade, but things haven’t gone as well as hoped. Finding the right chemistry has proved difficult and of course, injuries have played a huge role in their substandard performance since the deal.

Overall, Dallas is 7-10 since acquiring the explosive guard from Brooklyn. With Doncic out and Irving on the court, the Mavs are 3-1, but since Irving landed in Dallas, they’re 1-2 when both players are out of action. Home court advantage has proved crucial when these teams meet, with the hosts taking seven of the last eight.

Sportsbooks have found it difficult to handicap this one with the status of the Mavs two best players up in the air. Regardless, Dallas has posted a lowly 12-22-2 record against the spread at home this year, so they are only covering 33.3% of the time as hosts, no matter who takes to the court.

Warriors vs Mavericks Prediction

Watch for the NBA odds to move in this one as we get closer to tipoff and get a better sense of whether or not Doncic and/or Irving will play. Even if either of them do suit up, there will likely be some rustiness or pain management to deal with.

A loss by the Warriors allows the Mavs to jump them in the standings. Even though they’ve proved time and time again that they are not worthy of betting on as visitors, it’s crunch time and a loss here for the defending champs would be a huge blow, so our prediction is to go with the Warriors on the moneyline.

Pick: Golden State Warriors Moneyline (-120)
