The weather forecast is calling for a beautiful day in Lawrence with sunny skies, a high of 77 and southeast wind at 5 mph.

Iowa State Betting Outlook

Iowa State has one of the best defenses in the country from a statistical standpoint. The Cyclones are 14th in the nation in total defense (266.0) and 17th in scoring defense (14.5).

However, the Cyclones struggled to keep Baylor in check.

The Bears put up 31 points after Iowa State allowed a combined 27 in its first three games. Baylor finished with 361 total yards and covered at least 68 yards in four of its six possessions.

Iowa State’s defensive numbers are still strong.

Quarterback Hunter Dekkers threw for 284 yards and two touchdowns but was also picked off twice. He completed 23 of 36 attempts.

Jaylin Noel had 120 receiving yards on seven catches and Xavier Hutchinson had eight receptions for 84 yards.

However, Iowa State rushed for 66 yards on 27 attempts – just 2.4 a carry – and couldn’t overcome a 31-14 deficit in the fourth quarter despite a late rally.

Dekkers has 1,029 passing yards and 10 touchdowns this season with a 71.6% completion rate on his 141 attempts and five interceptions.

Hutchinson is among the top receivers in the nation with 36 catches for 403 yards and five TDs.

Jirehl Brock has 353 rushing yards and has gone for at least 74 yards in all four games.

Kansas Betting Outlook

Kansas has been overwhelming opponents with offense so far this season behind quarterback Jalon Daniels, whose Heisman Trophy odds are now +3000.

The Jayhawks are scoring 48.5 points a game, which is fourth in the FBS. Kansas had a season-high 528 yards last week and its 471.8 average is 32nd in the nation.

Daniels is completing 71% of his passes – 66 of 93 – for 890 yards, 11 touchdowns and only one interception. He is also Kansas’ leading rusher with 320 yards and four TDs on 38 carries.

Kansas has converted 25 of 28 red zone trips into touchdowns. That is a success rate of 89.3%.

Daniels accounted for five touchdowns last week when Kansas had a season-high 528 yards against Duke. He threw four scoring passes and rushed for another TD.

Daniels was 19-of-23 passing for 324 yards and added 83 yards on the ground in 11 carries.

Kansas spreads the ball around in the passing game. Luke Grimm has a team-high 15 receptions for 162 yards and two touchdowns and Lawrence Arnold has 14 catches for 194 yards and one TD, including 4 for 84 last week.

That offense is why Kansas is one of just 21 unbeaten teams remaining in FBS a month into the season. The defense is middling at best, standing 99th in the country with a 402.5 yards per game average.

Iowa State vs Kansas Prediction

The knock against Kansas is it has played a soft schedule. However, the Jayhawks look legit with Daniels running the offense and should take advantage of the opportunity to prove itself against a good team.
