The countdown has begun.

Late Sunday evening, the Super Bowl 57 matchup was finalized. We now know it’ll be the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the Philadelphia Eagles.

Over the next two weeks, there will be countless stats and trends to keep track of to figure out how to bet on the big game. You’ll see Super Bowl odds drop for any event that could take place between the whistles on February 12th.

But the real fun is the props. Pre-game, in-game, post-game, they’re everywhere.

And a popular one is always the National Anthem and how long it will take.

Ten of Cheffers’ 12 officiated career playoff games have gone under, with one hitting right on the number.

This year the National Anthem at Super Bowl 57 will be sung by Chris Stapleton. A fixture in country music, Stapleton will undoubtedly bring his unique style to the Star Spangled Banner.

The 44-year-old is a decorated writer and performer. He released Traveller, his debut album, in 2015 and it proceeded to go Platinum four times. His rendition of Tennessee Whiskey is regarded as some of his best work because of his stylistic choices. Stapleton has won eight Grammys, 10 ACM Awards, and 14 CMA Awards.

He will be the third-straight anthem singer with a country music background.

Super Bowl National Anthem Trends

Mikey Guyton sang the National Anthem at Super Bowl 56 and threw oddsmakers for a loop.

According to the historic Super Bowl anthem lengths, Guyton’s projected time was the shortest since Super Bowl 47. With other instances of Guyton singing the anthem coming across as business-as-usual, we thought we had found great value going under 1:40 at +170.

Wrong.

Guyton went over by 15-20 seconds, depending on where you get your odds. There has not been an anthem sung in under 1:50 in over a decade.

If you’re going to put on a show, this is the stage.

The average official duration from the past five Super Bowl anthems has been 119 seconds.

How Long Will Chris Stapleton’s National Anthem Be?

With previous anthem singers, there has been a lot of evidence to sort through. It was easy to find trends.

Not with Stapleton.

A quick Google search and a scour of YouTube doesn’t produce any results. The only thing that turns up when you toss in some combination of “Stapleton” and “Anthem” is news articles. While this probably isn’t the first time he’s sung the Star Spangled Banner, it’ll be the most documented one.

So now we turn to his musical style.

Using Tennessee Whiskey as our first litmus test, George Jones’ version of the song clocks in around three minutes. Regardless of whether it’s live or in-studio.

Stapleton’s blues-infused version comes in nearly two minutes heavier. It’s drawn out, soulful and drips with intention.

Stapleton’s most noteworthy live performance? That is his duet with Justin Timberlake at the 2015 CMA Awards. Now, this is obviously very different than a National Anthem. But Stapleton’s style and presence are able to channel the normally high-energy Timberlake into an eight-minute epic.

That’s not to say that Timberlake doesn’t bring soul to his performances, but this is something else.

Super Bowl 57 National Anthem Odds Prediction

There’s a chance this number moves around a bit as books become comfortable with Stapleton. Without any big-time anthem evidence, it is a lot of guesswork.

But stylistically, the sweet spot feels like the 2:10 to 2:15 neighborhood.

I’d say with a length of anything below 130 seconds, the over is the play here. It feels like organizers have been encouraging performers to stay out of the 2:20+ range, but Stapleton is definitely a guy that could push the envelope.
