Is “My Way” the Way?

Usher’s 1997 chart-topper “My Way” became the early favorite in the Usher First Song odds and has remained the favorite ever since. It’s worth noting, however, that the odds for “My Way” have actually lengthened from -200 to -120 despite the track being Usher’s most common opening song.

We were never huge on “My Way” being Usher’s opening Super Bowl, mainly because it doesn’t align with Super Bowl halftime show history. Super Bowl halftime shows tend to start with a bang and feature opening songs with more of an upbeat vibe.

“OMG” and “Yeah! are both uplifting tracks that anyone in the crowd can sing along to. We’re sticking with “OMG” as our pick, as the value is still tremendous. Don’t be surprised if the halftime show begins with the iconic “Oh my gosh” chant echoing through the shadowy confines of Allegiant Stadium.

  • Pick: OMG (+1100)

Usher’s Closing Song?

There is no heavy favorite to be Usher’s last song at Super Bowl 58, although oddsmakers are giving Yeah!” the best chance of closing things out. If Usher doesn’t open with the 2004 hit (featuring Ludacris and Lil Jon), it’s certainly possible he leaves it for the very end.

Super Bowl closing songs tend to be artist’s most popular hits, although they usually have an emotional element to them. Recent examples of emotional final songs include “Fix You” by Coldplay,  “Diamonds” by Rihanna, and “Halo” by Beyonce.

An Usher song that would fit this mold is the 2010 single “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love”. It features lyrics such as “So dance, dance like it’s the last, last night Of your life, life, gon’ get you right”, plus it’s a bit more recent. “Without You” is another solid option due to its romantic vibe.

  • Pick: DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love (+490)

Who is Usher’s Lucky Guest(s)?

One of the more fun Super Bowl prop bets is cameos for the halftime show. Who will Usher bring on stage with him this Sunday? FanDuel Canada was recently offering odds for this prop, but they’ve taken down this market at time of publishing.

Alicia Keys opened as a heavy favorite to appear on stage with Usher, and her odds shortened to -550 before the market was moved offline. Justin Bieber’s cameo odds also moved from +400 to -114, while Pitbull went from +410 to +134.

Although he wasn’t initially in the Usher guest appearance odds, Post Malone was recently added at -340 odds. Post Malone is slated to perform “America the Beautiful” as part of the pregame ceremonies (see broadcast props for Super Bowl), but there are no indications Usher will bring him back on stage at halftime.

Ludacris and Lil Jon are both solid value if you don’t want to pay the lofty price for Alicia Keys (who we strongly believe will cameo). The two rappers are featured on Usher’s most popular song “Yeah!” and there’s no better way for Usher to get the crowd into his performance than by bringing these two up on stage with him.

Picks:

  • Alicia Keys (-550)
  • Ludacris (-250)
  • Lil Jon (-102)

How Many Songs?

The halftime show at the Super Bowl is like a quick dash through all the best songs. Artists have only about 12 to 15 minutes, so they typically don’t play any song from beginning to end. Instead, they make the songs shorter or mix them together so they can fit in as many crowd-pleasers as possible.

Oddsmakers have set Usher’s tracklist at 8.5 songs, which feels a bit low to us. Usher has had 18 songs that have made it into the top 10, and nine of those were number 1 hits. The R&B singer is also pretty good at mixing songs together, so he’s likely going to pack in as much as possible by mixing different songs in cool ways.

YouTube video

Last year, Rihanna managed to squeeze in 15 songs in just over 13 minutes. We think Usher is capable of something similar. He likely exceed oddsmakers projections for total songs, especially considering every SB halftime performance since 2018 has featured at least nine songs.

If you need any more assurance before betting this Super Bowl prop, check out how many songs were performed in the past four Super Bowl halftimes:

Jennifer Lopez (JLo) and Shakira — 17 songs at Super Bowl 54.
The Weeknd — 9 songs at Super Bowl 55.
Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar — 11 songs together at Super Bowl 56.
Rihanna  — 15 songs at Super Bowl 57.

  • Pick: Over 8.5 Songs (-200 at BetMGM )

Shades or No Shades?

One of the more unique prop bets for the Super Bowl revolves around whether or not Usher will be wearing sunglasses when he’s first unveiled on stage at halftime. Despite the game taking place indoors at Allegiant Stadium, oddsmakers are setting the odds heavily in favor of the R&B singer donning shades.

Usher would need to wear sunglasses for sun protection compared to an outdoor venue. However, sunglasses could still be part of his performance look. Usher sometimes wears sunglasses during performances, as he has done during his Las Vegas residency shows.

In a recent Something In The Water Festival performance, Usher was wearing sunglasses for the opening song despite it appearing to be a pretty dark environment. Oddsmakers know something with how they’ve set this betting line, so we’re backing the singer to sport shades in Sin City on Sunday.

  • Pick: Usher to Wear Sunglasses (-250)

New Usher Song?

Identifying value can often be hard when it comes to online Super Bowl prop bets. These halftime shows are usually unpredictable, but there are certain things we can count on. One of those is the halftime singer performing his classic hits. When your music catalog is as large as Usher’s, there isn’t much room to test out new material.

We are predicting Usher won’t debut a new song during his halftime show, which is being offered at +100 odds by FanDuel. The sportsbook specifically states songs from the ‘Coming Home’ album will count as a new song, except for “Good Good”, “Ruin”, “Risk it All”, and “Standing Next to You”. That’s important given the rising popularity of those tracks.

Usher’s recent Las Vegas residency set lists have included classic hits and “Caught Up,” “Love in This Club,” “I Don’t Mind,” “Good Kisser,” “Climax,” “DJ Got Us Falling in Love” and “Without You”. With just 13 minutes for a halftime show, we don’t predict Usher will dedicate time to debuting a new song on stage Sunday.

  • Pick: No New Song (+100)
