Miami Dolphins cornerback Nik Needham (40) celebrates the 21-19 win over the Buffalo Bills as time runs out in the game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Sept. 25, 2022.
  • Checking the Miami Dolphins vs Cincinnati Bengals odds, it’s the defending AFC champion Bengals who are 4-point home favorites in the Week 4 TNF game
  • The AFC East-leading Dolphins are seeking to open an NFL season 4-0 for the first time since 1995
  • Miami is 11-1 straight up and 10-2 against the spread over the past 12 games. See our Dolphins vs Bengals picks below

As they travel to Cincinnati to face the Bengals (1-2, 1-2 ATS), the Miami Dolphins (3-0, 3-0 ATS) are perfect on the season, both straight up and against the spread. The Fins are leading the AFC East.

They’re also 4-point road underdogs to the Bengals.

The defending AFC champion Bengals are off the snide following last week’s 27-12 win over the New York Jets, and now the expectations are that they’ll just keep rolling. Perhaps oddsmakers are also anticipating a Miami letdown following last week’s emotional 21-19 home victory over the Buffalo Bills, favorites in the Super Bowl odds.

It’s drawing 73% of handle and 67% of the bets.

Public bettors are going against the NFL betting trends on the over/under on TNF. Cincinnati has gone under in eight successive games. Miami has gone under in nine of the last 13 games.

Check Out This Wild Miami Dolphins Trend

This is the seventh time since 1995 that the Dolphins have opened an NFL season 3-0. In 2018, 3-0 Miami lost at New England and finished 7-9. Five years earlier in 2013, the 3-0 Dolphins fell at New Orleans and ended up 8-8.

In 2002, 3-0 Miami was defeated at Kansas City and finished 9-7. En route to a 10-6 season in 1998, 3-0 Miami lost at the New York Jets in Week 4. Another 3-0 start for the Dolphins in 1996 was scuttled by a Week 4 setback at Indianapolis. That sparked a skid to an 8-8 finish.

The last time Miami was able to open a season 4-0 was in 1995. In Week 4, the 3-0 Dolphins traveled to Cincinnati and beat the Bengals 26-23.

So there’s that.

Will Tagovailoa Be Available for Miami?

There’s a real chance that Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (back) isn’t going to be available for this game. He’s been limited in practice this week and with a short week of preparation, time is working against his recovery. If Tagovailoa can’t go, the Fins will turn to backup Teddy Bridgewater. Bridgewater has a 33-31 record as a starter. He was 7-7 last year with Denver, throwing 18 TDs to seven INTs. Coincidentally, Bridgewater’s last start came against the Bengals last season in December, a 15-10 loss.

Tagovailoa is one of eight Miami starters listing as questionable. On offense, receivers Jaylen Waddle (groin) and Cedrick Wilson Jr (ribs/toe), LT Terron Armstead (toe) and RG Robert Hunt (shin) are given this status. Defensive starters who are questionable include NT Raekwon Davis (knee), LCB Xavien Howard (groin) and SS Brandon Jones (chest).

The Bengals aren’t nearly as injury-riddled as Miami. Right tackle La’el Collins  (back) has been missing from practice this week. LDT DJ Reader (knee) is out.

Dolphins vs Bengals Prediction

A miracle fourth-quarter rally against Baltimore and surviving by the skin of their teeth against Buffalo allowed Miami to get to 3-0. The Dolphins are #3 in total offense (355.3 yards per game) But they’re #4 in passing offense and #31 in rushing offense, so there’s not much balance in the Miami attack.

The Dolphins are the #31 defensive squad. They’re allowing 413.7 YPG. That can’t continue.

This seems so much like a trap game for Miami and oddsmakers tend to agree when it comes to TNF picks against the spread. The line has lengthened from Cincinnati -3.5 to Bengals -4.

  • Pick: Cincinnati Bengals -4 (-110), 1 unit
  • TNF record (0-0 ML, 0-3 ATS, 0-0 O/U) -3.00 units
