  • The Boston Bruins head to Philadelphia to take on the Flyers
  • With both teams playing on Saturday, the NHL-best Bruins enter as -240 favorites as they seek an NHL-record 63rd win

Saying that the Bruins and Flyers are at opposite ends of the standings is almost putting it lightly.

Entering Easter weekend, the two were separated by 56 points. Boston has been otherworldly in 2022/23, clinching the Presidents’ Trophy over a week ago. They’ve established a new franchise record for wins, and are now one win away from setting the NHL’s new single-season high.

The Flyers have failed to qualify for the NHL playoffs for the third-straight season and fourth time in five years. They’re also currently riding a six-game losing streak.

Even more frustrating  is that Philly isn’t even bad enough to lead the chase for Connor Bedard. There are six teams worse than them in the standings.

Now the two get set to face off as the NHL season winds down. Puck drop is set for 6:00 pm ET from Wells Fargo Center.

Bruins vs Flyers Odds

Game Time (ET) Team Puck Line Total Moneyline
Sunday, April 9 Boston Bruins -1.5 (+100) Ov 6.5 (+100) -240
6:00 PM Philadelphia Flyers +1.5 (-121) Un 6.5 (-122) +190

It’s no surprise that the Bruins are heavy favorites. Boston has doubled Philadelphia’s win total this year, scored nearly 80 more goals than the Flyers, and allowed 30 fewer goals than the next closest team.

The Bruins have a healthy lead atop the Stanley Cup odds, too. Sitting at +380, the defending champion Avalanche follow at +700 and then it’s four Eastern Conference teams. The Flyers haven’t been better than +15000 since October.

Bruins Eye Season Sweep vs Flyers

Entering Saturday, Boston had lost a grand total of 17 games in 2022/23. Five of those games went to overtime, earning them a point. The Flyers aren’t one of the teams that have handed Boston a rare loss. In two games, the Flyers have struggled to keep things close.

David Krejci has been enjoying a throwback year, and a lot of his success has come against the Flyers. In November’s 4-1 win he had a pair of goals, and chipped in with three assists in January’s 6-0 win. Unfortunately for the Bruins he’ll be sitting out this weekend.

David Pastrnak had two goals and an assist in Boston’s shutout win, and added an assist for four points in two games. Pastrnak has had a spectacular season, topping 50 goals and 100 points for the first time in his career. If it wasn’t for Connor McDavid’s ridiculous year, the fact he’s second in the Hart Trophy odds would be way more consequential.

Frost Heating Up to Close Out 2022/23

One bright spot for the Flyers this year has been the play of their younger players. Travis Konecny was on pace for a career year before being sidelined for over a month with an upper body injury and Owen Tippett is wrapping up his first 20 goal season.

The Flyers have been hoping Morgan Frost settles in at the NHL level and it seems he’s doing just that. Frost had 23 points in 77 games entering this season, and has 43 points in 2022/23.

He’s been especially hot lately. He had a five game point streak snapped during Philly’s loss to Dallas, and had five goals and two assists during that run. Over his last 11 games he has seven goals and 13 points.

Bruins vs Flyers Pick

This is a tough one to read. The second of a back-to-back for both teams, and there isn’t a ton on the line for Boston in terms of this season. But those two points are huge when it comes to their place in history.

And they’re still the better team.

Five of the Flyers’ last six losses are by at least two goals. The expected matchup of Jeremy Swayman and Felix Sandstrom in net also gives Boston the advantage.

There’s no reason to bank on an upset in this one, and given their history this season, a Bruins cover isn’t too big of an ask.

The Pick: Boston Bruins -1.5 (+100)
