  • The Calgary Flames (20-14-9) visit the Dallas Stars (25-11-7) on Saturday afternoon
  • Dallas opens up as a -124 home favorite

Outside of a pesky West Coast swing and a downer in New York, the Dallas Stars have been hot.

Before losing in Los Angeles and Anaheim, Dallas had won four in a row and five of their last six. Since then they’ve won two of three, dropping their Thursday night matchup with the Rangers.

The Flames meanwhile, are clinging to a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference as things begin to get serious. Calgary’s win against the Blues was big. They’re two points up on the Oilers for the first Wild Card spot and four points up on St. Louis.

On Saturday the Central-leading Stars welcome the Flames to town. With puck drop set for 2 pm ET, the Flames may already feel a little road weary. This will be the third game of a five-game road trip.

Dallas sits eighth in the Stanley Cup odds at +1600, but have the third-best odds of anyone in the West. Calgary isn’t far behind at ninth and +1800.

Calgary Flames Betting Trends

You can’t blame bettors for feeling a little jilted.

Heading into Thursday, Calgary had been favored in all four games they had played in 2023. They cashed just once over that stretch, including a disappointing overtime loss to Chicago.

Flames: Last Five Games

Opponent Final Score Flames  Moneyline Over/Under
Jan 12 @ STL 4-1 CGY -165 6.0 (Under)
Jan 10 @ STL 4-3 (OT) STL -165 5.5 (Over)
Jan 8 @ CHI 4-3 (OT) CHI -340 5.5 (Over)
Jan 6 vs NYI 4-1 CGY -220 5.5 (Under)
Jan 3 @ WPG 3-2 WPG -145 5.5 (Under)

Calgary could certainly use a little more out of offseason acquisition Jonathan Huberdeau. Huberdeau is averaging 2.8 shot attempts per game. That’s down from 4.3 a year ago and 3.4 in 2020/21. His three game point streak ended on Thursday, and he’s been held without a shot in two of his last four games.

Leading scorer Elias Lindholm has six points in his last five games.

Dallas Stars Betting Trends

Those two losses in California definitely stung Stars backers. For the most part though, Dallas has been worth the money.

For a team featuring one of the league’s most dangerous players however, it’s the under that’s consistently paying out.

Stars: Last Five Games

Opponent Final Score Rangers  Moneyline Over/Under
Jan 12 @ NYR 2-1 (OT) NYR +110 5.5 (Under)
Jan 10 @ NYI 2-1 (SO) DAL -115 5.5 (Under)
Jan 8 vs FLA 5-1 DAL -130 6.5 (Under)
Jan 4 @ ANA 2-0 ANA -220 6.5 (Under)
Jan 3 @ LA 3-2 LA -125 5.5 (Under)

Jason Robertson is coming off of an eight game point streak that saw him finish with three goals and nine assists. After going scoreless against the Ducks, he came back with two goals against Florida and one against the Isles. He was held off the scoresheet on Thursday.

The revitalization of Jamie Benn has been a welcome addition too. Although he only had two assists in his last five games entering Thursday, Benn is one pace for his highest point total since 2018. He’s nine points shy of matching last year’s mark of 46.

Flames vs Stars Pick

This is the first of three games between these two from now until the end of the season.

The Stars are one of the better teams in the league 5-on-5, and are in the top half of the league in some metrics. They’ll be hoping to stymie a Flames side that thrives off of creating high-danger chances.

Parlay odds from Barstool Sportsbook

Last week we went bold. While we didn’t officially endorse the Rangers/Devils  +1050 parlay, it did hit. Nothing like that this week however.

Robertson is the best player on the ice. And he scores goals at will. Stars -1.5 could be a stretch, but if they frustrate the Flames, a low-scoring, two-goal win could be in the cards.

The Pick: Dallas Stars -1.5 (+195); 1 unit
