In an Original Six matchup, the Bruins host Detroit in one of the early contests. Boston is a perfect 5-0-0 at home this season despite missing Brad Marchand and Charlie McAvoy. The Bruins have fallen to the middle tier of contenders in the Stanley Cup odds, and are proving the doubters wrong with their early returns.

One of the biggest surprises of the early season is that Auston Matthews only has one goal in seven games. The favorite in the Rocket Richard Trophy odds only had one tally in his first six contests in October last year and finished with 59 markers in his last 67 games.

If you’re looking for a good player prop bet on the ice on Thursday, pick the Leafs center to score against the Sharks. He has lit the lamp nine times in nine games against the Sharks for his career and is way overdue by his standards. The Leafs are moneyline favorites with the puck drop scheduled for 10:30 pm ET.

Wild vs Senators Prediction

It should be a fun one when the Wild visit the Senators at the Canadian Tire Centre. Despite a four-game winning streak, the Senators are +102 home underdogs.

Kirill Kaprizov is getting strong consideration in the Hart Trophy odds and his Wild have been filling the net with goals, but they haven’t been filling the standings with wins in the early going. Minnesota is coming off a win against Montreal after starting the season 1-3-1 and Marc-Andre Fleury has left a lot to be desired.

Wild vs Senators Projected Starting Goalies

Team Goalie Record SV% GAA
Minnesota Wild Marc-Andre Fleury 2-1-1 .869 4.30
Ottawa Senators Anton Forsberg 3-2-0 .904 2.82

The Senators have also been scoring in abundance. In fact, they are averaging 4.17 goals per game going into Wednesday night’s action, good for second in the league. It’s no wonder the oddsmakers have set the over/under total at 7 goals for this one.

While the over feels like a good bet here, it doesn’t make much sense that the Senators are the underdogs. They’re a perfect 4-0-0 at home and the Wild have been all over the place this year. A good bet in this one is to take the Senators on the moneyline.

Pick: Ottawa Senators Moneyline (+102)

Canucks vs Kraken Pick

Bruce Boudreau’s seat must be feeling really hot right now. At 0-5-2, Vancouver is the lone remaining winless team in the NHL this year. If the Canucks can’t manage a victory as underdogs against the second-year Kraken in the Thursday NHL odds, Boudreau might be the first coach to get his walking papers this season.

There’s no defending their record to start the season, but Vancouver has lost three of their last four by only one goal with two of those defeats coming in overtime. They swept the developing cross-border rivalry with the Kraken last year, taking all four matchups and outscoring Seattle 19-8 in those contests.

With their backs against the wall, expect the Canucks to save their coach for the time being and play desperately. A young Kraken team should be the right recipe to get in the win column, so the prediction and best bet here is to take the Canucks on the moneyline.

Pick: Vancouver Canucks Moneyline (+105)
