Those early season struggles for the Toronto Maple Leafs are a thing of the distant past.

While they have at least one game at hand on almost every Atlantic Division team, the Leafs are cruising. Toronto maintained their cushion for second place in the Division with their fourth-straight win on Tuesday.

They’re in prime position to become the fourth team to win 20 games this season.

New York enters Thursday on  their own four-game winning streak. But they sit just outside the top three in the Metropolitan Division. The Rangers’ win streak has seen its share of drama lately, with a shootout win over the Avalanche, an overtime win against the Devils, and a wild comeback against the Blues.

The opening faceoff is set for 7:00 pm ET on Thursday at Madison Square Garden.

The Maple Leafs are road favorites, with a little more value placed on their four-game streak. That, and the fact that Toronto hasn’t lost in regulation since November 11th against Pittsburgh. New York had lost five of six before their recent four game run.

The Leafs are tied for fifth in the Stanley Cup odds. The Rangers are farther down at 12th. Five of New York’s last six games have seen at least six goals scored, while Toronto has scored at least four goals in four straight.

Toronto Maple Leafs Betting Trends

It didn’t take Mitch Marner long to extend his point streak to 23 games against the Ducks. He assisted on John Tavares’ goal 8:41 into the game, and added another assist in the second period.

Marner has 11 goals and 22 assists in 23 games, and sits on the cusp of the top ten in league scoring. Marner has 19 points at even strength, and 12 on the power play over his run of dominance. He also has a pair of game-winning goals.

Maple Leafs: Last Five Games

Opponent Final Score Maple Leafs  Moneyline Over/Under
Dec 13 vs ANA 7-0 TOR -550 6.5 (Under)
Dec 10 vs CGY 5-4 TOR (OT) -165 5.5 (Over)
Dec 8 vs LAK 5-0 TOR -175 6.0 (Over)
Dec 6 @ DAL 4-0 TOR +117 6.5 (Under)
Dec 3 @ TB 4-3 TBL (OT) +133 5.5 (Over)

Marner’s hot streak has somewhat overshadowed Auston Matthews’ recent run.

Matthews entered Tuesday with six goals and seven assists over his last seven games. Before being held scoreless against the Ducks, he had scored a goal in six of those games. If there is a downside in all of this, it’s that Matthews’ only two-goal game came in early November against Boston.

John Tavares scored for just the second time in nine games on Tuesday.

New York Rangers Betting Trends

While the Leafs have Matthews and Marner, Artemi Panarin has been hot for the Rangers.

Panarin has points in nine of his last 10 games, with one goal and 12 assists. During New York’s winning streak, Panarin has seven assists. Almost half of the Rangers goals have run through Panarin in the last week.

Rangers: Last Five Games

Opponent Final Score Rangers  Moneyline Over/Under
Dec 12 vs NJD 4-3 NYR (OT) -110 6.0 (Over)
Dec 9 @ COL 2-1 NYR (SO) -155 5.5 (Under)
Dec 7 @ VGK 5-1 NYR +133 6.0 (Push)
Dec 5 vs STL 6-4 NYR -175 5.5 (Over)
Dec 3 vs CHI 5-2 CHI -265 6.5 (Over)

Adam Fox has points in five of his last six games, with a goal and five assists. The Rangers continue to reap the rewards of trotting out one of the league’s most dangerous defensemen.

While his numbers aren’t quite in line with last year’s award-winning season, Igor Shesterkin remains a workhorse. Shesterkin, who holds top spot in this year’s Vezina Trophy odds, has started all four wins. Shesterkin carries a .929 save percentage over those four games, thanks to a 41-save effort against Colorado.

Leafs vs Rangers Pick

Shesterkin has given up at least two goals in 10 of his last 14 games. And the Leafs offense is firing on all cylinders right now.

Backing goals, and some of the league’s best snipers getting in on the action is almost too easy.

Leafs vs Rangers Same Game Parlay

Bet Odds
Both Teams to Score -2500
Auston Matthews to Score -106
Chris Kreider to Score +135
Parlay Odds via Barstool +370

We’re hedging a little by betting both teams to score. Barstool has both to score two goals at -220. That bumps your parlay odds to +430.

Six of Toronto’s last seven wins have been by at least two goals. The way they’re playing right now makes them hard to bet against, and a Leafs cover carries great value.

The Pick: Maple Leafs -1.5 (+205); 1 unit
