Both of these clubs boast top-seven price tags in the World Series odds, with New York now the second shortest priced team after the Dodgers.

The Mets will send Tylor Megill to the mound on Wednesday, looking for his fifth straight win. Megill has been nothing short of spectacular in the early going, posting a tidy 1.93 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP.

The 26-year-old is fresh off 5 innings of shutout ball versus the Phillies, in a contest where New York used five pitchers to toss the first no-hitter of the season.

It was Megill’s third start out of five in which he didn’t surrender a run, and he’s allowed just six enemy hitters to cross the plate in 28 innings of work. His elite start has earned him top-12 consideration in the NL Cy Young odds, and he has a strong track record versus the defending champs.

Megill was 1-0 in four starts against the Braves in 2021, posting a 2.75 ERA, while holding them to a .192 batting average.

Atlanta will counter with Ian Anderson, who’s trending up. The 24-year-old has rebounded from a disastrous opening outing with three quality performances, most recently against Texas. Anderson threw 6 innings of two-run ball versus the Rangers, allowing just three hits.

He’s now yielded only six runs over his past 16.2 innings of work, and is starting to look like the pitcher who dominated last postseason. Anderson was 2-0 in four playoff starts, with a 1.59 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP.

He was 1-1 in three starts against the Mets last year, posting a 3.31 ERA, while yielding a .213 batting average.

The Braves on the other hand, have underwhelmed offensively. They entered play on Tuesday ranked bottom-11 in runs, and below league average in average and OBP. The offense should start reaping the benefits of Ronald Acuna Jr. shortly however, as the former leading NL MVP odds candidate has now been back for a week after undergoing knee surgery last year.

At 18-8, the Mets own the second best record in baseball and boast the third best run differential (+38). They’re 9-4 against divisional opponents, and 11-5 combined versus the Braves, Phillies, Cardinals and Giants, four of the eight shortest priced NL teams in the World Series odds.

Given the form of Megill and their offensive prowess versus an Atlanta team clearly suffering from a championship hangover, it makes sense to roll with New York again on Wednesday.
