Dolphins vs Chargers Recent History
The teams met last season in Week 14 in Inglewood with the Chargers winning 23-17. Herbert threw for 359 yards and one touchdown, which went to Mike Williams, who had six receptions for 116 yards.
Dolphins Offense vs Chargers Defense
Tagovailoa led the NFL with a 105.2 passer rating last season while helping the Dolphins to their first postseason berth since 2016. He also set career highs with 3,548 passing yards and 25 touchdown passes despite being limited to 13 games because of concussions.
The Chargers applied constant pressure on Tagovailoa last season. Though he was sacked just twice, Tagovailoa was 10-of-28 passing and his 145 yards were his season-low for a full game.
Look for the Dolphins to try to get wide receiver Tyreek Hill in space after he had 119 catches and 1,710 receiving yards – both career highs – in 2022 during his first season with Miami. Hill caught a 60-yard touchdown pass in last year’s matchup with the Chargers.
I don’t know about you but that looks like money.

In 2023, the Chargers were 28th among the 32 NFL teams in run defense. They signed free agent linebacker Eric Kendricks as a free agent after he was a standout with the Minnesota Vikings for eight seasons to help remedy the situation.
Chargers Offense vs Dolphins Defense
Herbert will make his 50th career start and he has put up some very impressive numbers in three seasons. His 1,316 career competitions are the most in NFL history through 50 games. Herbert has NFL MVP odds of +1200. He’s a good player to target in the Dolphins vs Chargers props.
Running back Austin Ekeler has a nose for the end zone as he led the league with 18 touchdowns last season, 13 rushing and five receiving. He has 38 total touchdowns over the past two seasons.
Wide receiver Keenan Allen can reach a significant milestone. He needs four receptions to become the third NFL player with 800 catches in less than 130 games. He would join Antonio Brown (126) and Julio Jones (127). Allen has played in 126 games.

The Dolphins look to new coordinator Vic Fangio, in his 37th NFL season, to improve a defense that was 18th in total yards allowed last season. Fangio has a ballhawk in cornerback Xavien Howard, whose 28 interceptions since 2017 are the most in the league.
Dolphins vs Chargers Injury Report
Dolphins left offensive tackle Terron Armstead (back/ankle/knee) will miss the game. He was also banged up for most of the 2022 season, though he sat out just four games.
Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (oblique) is expected to play. Six-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey (knee) begins the season on injured reserve after being acquired from the Los Angeles Rams in an offseason trade.
Chargers rookie linebacker Daiyan Henley (hamstring) is listed as doubtful.
Dolphins vs Chargers Prediction
Fangio’s defense gets a tough early test in facing Herbert. However, look for the veteran DC to at least slow down Herbert while Tagovailoa keeps the Dolphins close and covers in the Dolphins vs Chargers odds.
Dolphins vs Chargers Picks: Dolphins +3 (-105)
