Myles Garrett, the 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, has requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns, the team that drafted him first overall in 2017. Garrett is under contract through the 2026 season so the Browns are under no obligation to move the four-time First-Team All-Pro. But sportsbooks have still posted odds on which team Garrett will suit up for at the start of next season, and the Browns are only tepid favorites.
Myles Garrett Next Team Odds
The odds on Garrett’s next team have six teams shorter than +1000, led by the incumbent Cleveland Browns.

Will Browns Keep Garrett?
The word out of the Browns’ front office is that they intend to keep Garrett, who is arguably the best pass rusher in the league currently. Garrett has recorded double-digit sacks in seven straight seasons, which is every year of his career since his rookie season, when he had seven sacks in an injury-shortened 11-game campaign. Garrett’s sacks total since 2018 (95.5 sacks in 106 games) is second to TJ Watt (101 sacks), and he finished second in the league this year with 14.0, behind Cincinnati’s Trey Hendrickson (17.5).
PFF graded Myles Garrett as the second-best edge defender in the league this past season at 92.3. Detroit’s Aidan Hutchinson had a 94.9 grade but he only played 4.5 games before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
In other words, if the Browns do trade the 29-year-old Garrett, they’ll be trading a generational player at the height of his talent while he’s under team control for another two full seasons.
The return would have to be massive for the Browns to feel like they’re getting fair return.
Which Teams Make the Most Sense for a Garrett Trade?
For starters, you can cross off every team in the AFC North (Bengals, Ravens, Steelers). If the Browns trade Garrett to a division rival, I’ll be more stunned than I was by the Doncic-for-Davis trade. I’m actually stunned they’re not the bottom three teams in the odds. Depleting a division rival of draft capital is a savvy longterm move, but trading Garrett to Baltimore, Cincinnati, or Pittsburgh would be a PR nightmare that could cost GM Andrew Berry his job.
NFL.com’s Eric Edholm pegged the Detroit Lions as the best fit for Garrett, and there’s certainly an argument to be made. Detroit has a ton of offensive weapons to use as trade bait, and Cleveland is in dire need of more offensive firepower. The Lions also have a little cap space to work with and, if they have a weakness, it’s in the front seven.
The second-favorite on the board is the Washington Commanders. With rookie QB Jayden Daniels at the helm and a defense that ranked second-last in the NFL in scoring in 2023, the Commanders stunned by reaching the NFC Championship Game this year. Their defense showed huge improvement, year-over-year, but it was still the glaring weakness. They graded fourth-worst in the league in rush defense and second-worst in overall defense per PFF. Making matters worse, their leading sack man – Dante Fowler Jr (10.5 sacks) – is a free agent.
Fox Sports’ Eric Williams sees the Chargers as a potential fit. They will have a ton of cap space to work with and are poised to lose aging-but-still-effective Khalil Mack in free agency. Their bigger concerns are on the offensive side of the ball – they graded out third overall in defense but 15th on offense – and it’s safe to assume the Browns would rather trade Garrett to the NFC if they trade him at all.
