A disappointing and sorry season for the Calgary Flames comes to a conclusion on Wednesday, April 12th when they host the San Jose Sharks in their regular season finale. Calgary was eliminated from getting a spot in the NHL playoff bracket on Monday, after suffering a 3-2 shootout loss to the Predators.

Faceoff for this matchup is scheduled for 10:00 pm ET from the Scotiabank Saddledome. Broadcast coverage will be carried by TNT in the United States and Sportsnet in Canada.

With no further adieu, we present to you, the Sharks vs Flames odds below as well as offer up some analysis before giving you our best bet and pick for this game.

Sharks vs Flames Odds

Game Time Team Puck Line Total Moneyline
Wednesday, April 12th San Jose Sharks +1.5 (-115) O 6.5 (-130) +200
10:00 PM Calgary Flames -1.5 (-115) U 6.5 (+100) -250

It’s always a toss-up on the NHL betting line when you have two teams going against each other that have nothing to play for, but Calgary has owned San Jose this season. Although they’ll be very disappointed after being eliminated from postseason contention, the Flames are heavy -250 home favorites for this meeting.

The over/under total is set at 6.5 goals, a number these teams have exceeded in each of their three matchups this season. Calgary has averaged six goals per game against the Sharks this campaign.

Sharks Pay Out on Over Bets in NHL Odds

Only two teams have provided a better return on investment this season when wagering the over in their contests than the San Jose Sharks, the Edmonton Oilers and St. Louis Blues. Allowing an average of 3.84 goals per game, the Sharks rank 3rd worst in the NHL in team goals against average.

In each of their last four games, San Jose has given up at least four goals, losing every single one of those contests. In fact, the over has hit in nine of their last 10 games. When you’re playing out the string, sometimes players abandon defensive responsibility in the hopes of padding their point totals.

Over the course of the season, San Jose has surpassed the over in 48 of their games, a 60% hit percentage, providing an 11.68% return on investment if you’ve been wagering on that throughout the year.

Flames Disappointing Season Conclude vs Sharks

Perhaps no team had more upheaval at the top of their roster than the Calgary Flames to start the year as they lost their top two scorers in the summer, Matthew Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau. However, they restocked the cupboards quite nicely, bringing in Nazem Kadri, Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar.

With those additions, many considered them a strong consideration in the Stanley Cup odds at the beginning of the year. However, goalie Jacob Markstrom, an early season contender in the Vezina Trophy odds, had a poor season by his standards and their two big additions up front didn’t live up to expectations.

After winning a Stanley Cup with Colorado, and notching a career-high 87 points, Kadri was expected to bring extra scoring depth, defensive acumen and playoff grit to this Flames lineup. Instead, he’s 32 points behind last season’s total and a team-worst -20 on the season.

Even worse might be the performance of Huberdeau, a player who finished just eight points behind Connor McDavid in the Art Ross race last year and was the chalk at times in the Hart Trophy odds last year. The former Panther has just 15 goals this campaign and is an incredible 60 points behind last season’s pace.

Sharks vs Flames Pick and Prediction

With nothing left to play for, the Flames should have enough pride to put in a decent goodbye performance in front of their home crowd. They’re definitely the better side in this matchup, as reflected in the NHL odds.

Sharks vs Flames Same-Game Parlay Picks

Pick Odds
Over 6.5 Goals -130
Tyler Toffoli Anytime Goal Scorer +130
PARLAY ODDS  +285

One of the few Flames players that actually exceeded expectations this season was winger Tyler Toffoli. He had career highs in goals with 34 and points with 73. It’s only fitting he goes out with a marker in his last outing of the year.

When two teams aren’t vying for anything significant, there’s usually a free and easy style of play, which lends itself to a lot of goals. These teams easily topped the goal total in their three head-to-head’s this season and we don’t see any reason why that trend stops in the NHL odds on Wednesday night.

Pick: Over 6.5 Goals (-130)
