Looking forward to their second crown, Chelsea begins their 2013-14 UEFA Champions League season against Shalke 04, next Wednesday at 14:45 in Stanford Bridge.

The match will be the kick off on the group G of the UCL. In this group are also Sporting Clube from Portugal and NK Maribor from Slovenia. In UEFA Champions League betting odds, Mourinho’s team is the favorite with -300. In contrast, a draw pays +475, and a Schalke 04 goes up to +900.

In last UCL season group stage, both teams were also in the same group. Chelsea won both home and away games 3-0. The Blues will try to continue their good streak against Schalke and win their third game against in a row.

In addition, they will try to continue the awesome streak they have had this season. The Blues are on the first place of the Barclays Premier League with 12 points after a solid and perfect performance (four games and four wins).

“In modern society there are people sometimes behind players who make them be a little bit more selfish in the sense of ‘you first, and the team second’. Costa has the concept of ‘the team first, and me second; the team needs me and I am ready to go for the team’. When you get guys with this mentality they become special and they can be an influence to the people around them”, said coach Jose Mourinho of striker Diego Costa, who has been great in the English Premier League first few games.

In contrast, Schalke 04 has had an awful start in the Bundesliga and will visit Stanford Bridge as the 16th place of the German tournament. This season they have only one draw, and two defeats in three games played.
