Opening 2019 SummerSlam Odds: All 3 Champions (Bayley, Lynch & Lesnar) Favored to Defend Titles

• WWE SummerSlam will take place at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on August 11th
• Early odds indicate three of WWE’s top champions will retain their titles
• Who else will walk out of SummerSlam with gold still in their possession?

With a few matches already announced, WWE’s 2019 SummerSlam pay-per-view (6:00 PM ET, August 11th) is shaping up to be an exciting one. As the company’s second-biggest event of the year behind WrestleMania, every installment has something special to offer, but this year’s may very well be the most memorable in some time.

From what has been confirmed for the card so far, it appears a majority of the WWE Universe is preparing for three successful championship defenses from Raw and SmackDown Live’s top title holders.

Of course, things can (and likely will) change between now and then, but it doesn’t hurt to offer early speculation as to whether fans are right on the money with their picks or not.

SmackDown Women’s Championship Odds: Bayley vs Ember Moon

Bayley experienced quite the career resurgence when she won the SmackDown Women’s Championship for the first time in her career at May’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view.

While she hasn’t had the hottest feud since then thanks to her lackluster beef with Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross, she emerged from both of their championship clashes with her title intact.

Now, WWE’s resident hugger sets her sights on Ember Moon for SummerSlam, which will be her toughest test to date. They have never before gone one-on-one in WWE, so the match should be nothing short of stellar.

Moon has largely flown under the radar since making her SmackDown Live debut back in April, but this could be her shot at super-stardom. It depends what type of momentum she builds up over the next three weeks, but for now, it looks like Bayley’s title run will roll on through the remainder of 2019 and potentially beyond.

Raw Women’s Championship Odds: Becky Lynch vs Natalya

Becky Lynch vs. Natalya for the Raw Women’s Championship at SummerSlam is more of a marquee match on paper than Bayley vs. Ember Moon because of how high up on the totem pole Lynch is these days, but it’s arguably way more predictable.

The Man has been beating everyone who has stepped up to fight her over the past three months and Natalya should be no different. Natalya won a Fatal 4-Way on Raw this week to earn a title shot after not appearing on the flagship show for several weeks, so it’ll be difficult to take her seriously as a threat to the title.

It must be noted that Natalya will have the home field advantage at SummerSlam with the event emanating from her native Canada. She could come close to capturing the championship, but at the end of the day, there’s no reason for Lynch to drop the strap so soon.

Until Ronda Rousey resurfaces (which may not be until early next year), look for Lynch to maintain her grasp on the gold.

Universal Championship Odds: Brock Lesnar vs Seth Rollins

SummerSlam is known for hosting WrestleMania rematches and that’ll be the case once again in Toronto when Seth Rollins vies for the Universal title he feels he should have never lost against Brock Lesnar.

To be fair, Rollins wasn’t lighting the world on fire during his time on top as Universal champion, so perhaps Lesnar regaining the gold (even if it’s short-lived) is the best thing for the title right now.

On the other hand, we’re back to having a champion that rarely shows up on Raw, so Rollins getting the belt back at the biggest party of the summer would be ideal.

Unfortunately, the odds say otherwise. A majority of the WWE Universe seems to strongly believe that Lesnar will walk out of SummerSlam still the Universal champion, and that isn’t a far-fetched theory in the slightest. After all, what would be the point of Lesnar beating Rollins for the championship only to lose it back to him the very next month?

As much as most fans don’t want to see Lesnar as the champ past SummerSlam, chances are that is what will happen. From there, he can focus on other (and fresher contenders), but who those Superstars would be remains to be seen.

Hopefully we can get a better idea of who else might be waiting in the wings to challenge The Beast Incarnate in the weeks ahead, but until then, he’ll be a force to be reckoned with on Raw for as long as he wants.
