The Chicago White Sox will be aiming to record consecutive wins over Cleveland for the first time in 14 meetings when they wrap up a three-game weekend series with their AL Central rivals on Sunday as -172 favorites. Chicago rebounded from a 5-3 series-opening loss to record a 7-3 victory on Saturday afternoon. The club has now earned the win in nine of 12 contests overall, solidifying their grasp on second place in the divisional standings.
Now lagging 2.5 games back of the White Sox in the AL Central, Cleveland sit as +144 underdogs for Sunday’s series finale at 2:10pm ET at Guaranteed Rate Field. Cleveland has won four of six overall, but the club has failed to win back-to-back games while compiling a middling 5-7 road record this season

White Sox Showing an Eye at the Plate
Patience at the plate paid off for the White Sox in Saturday afternoon’s win. Chicago hitters mustered just four hits, but made up for it by racking up eight walks. Veteran catcher Yasmani Grandal set the example with four, and has now walked on seven occasions over his past four games. Grandal also scored twice, including on Tim Anderson’s second-inning grand slam, which put the game out of reach.

Overall, the White Sox have now scored at least seven runs in five of their past nine outings, and have seen the OVER regularly pay out of late in totals betting, going 7-3 in their past 10 games. That trend extends to recent dates with the AL Central, with the OVER going 4-2 in the team’s past six.

Giolito on the Rebound
Lucas Giolito will be aiming to rebound from back-to-back shaky starts when he takes the hill for the White Sox on Sunday. The 26-year-old righthander retired just three of 13 batters he faced while getting tagged for seven earned runs in the club’s 11-4 loss in Boston on April 19. Giolito followed up on that dismal performance by allowing four earned runs in 6.2 innings of work last time out, earning the decision in a 5-2 loss to Detroit this past Tuesday.

Success has also eluded Giolito in recent dates with Cleveland. While he limited opposing hitters to just four total earned runs on 11 total hits over 20.0 innings of work, Giolito received little run support over his past three starts against Cleveland, with the White Sox falling to defeat in each of those contests.
Cleveland Enduring Hard Luck on the Road
High scoring has also been a regular theme for Cleveland. The club has seen the OVER going 5-0-1 during their current 4-2 run, during which they have averaged almost five runs per game. But after surrendering 20 total runs over their past three contests, concerns have emerged on defense.

But despite their middling performance on the road, the club has enjoyed success at holding opposing hitters in check. Cleveland has limited opponents to three or fewer runs in seven of their 12 road dates, and allowed five or fewer hits in four of their past seven.

Plesac Rocked by Chicago Earlier this Season
Like Giolito, Zach Plesac has also struggled in recent outings. Expected to get the call for Cleveland on Sunday afternoon, the promising young righthander was rocked for six earned runs in each of his two previous starts against Chicago.
Zach Plesac only allowed 4 earned runs against the White Sox for the entire 2020 season. He’s allowed 12 earned in his last two starts against them.

Plesac is now winless in three straight starts despite turning in a steady five-hit performance over 7.2 innings in the team’s 5-3 win over Minnesota this past Monday.
The Picks: White Sox -1.5 (+125); OVER 7.5 (-118)
