The Los Angeles Angels go up against the Chicago White Sox again on Saturday night. They lost a tough slugfest by a score of 12-8 and will look to avenge that loss. The game is set for 9:07 pm ET.

Chicago opened up as a -130 favorite after taking the second game of the series Friday, knocking around Andrew Heaney and the LA bullpen for 12 runs.

White Sox vs Angels Odds

Team Moneyline at DraftKings Runline Total
Chicago White Sox -130 -1.5 (+125) Over 8.5 (-125)
Los Angeles Angels +110 +1.5 (-145) Under 8.5 (+105)

Odds as of April 3rd.

Lance Lynn Is A Durable Workhorse

Lance Lynn will make his debut with the White Sox, who acquired him via trade from the Texas Rangers. His 2020 season was a hard grind, as he finished with a 6-3 record in 13 starts (3.32 ERA, 89 Ks). He expects to be a solid third in the rotation for the White Sox.

Last season, he led the majors with 13 starts and pitched a total of 84 innings. Before that, Lynn pitched over 200 innings in three seasons and has three consecutive campaigns with a K/9 rate at 9.5 or above. However, does he over-rely on his fastball?

Now he gets a matchup with Los Angeles, one of the league’s worst teams in the American League last year. Lynn does have a somewhat large track record versus Los Angeles and Mike Trout, in particular, does have an extensive history.

Angels Career Stats vs Lynn

White Sox Offense Could Be Tested Too

Chicago outscored Los Angeles 12-8 on Friday as Los Angeles managed seven hits but scored eight runs. On Saturday, they’ll take on Alex Cobb, who seems to have rediscovered his fastball (improved velocity) after an offseason trip to Driveline. The 33-year-old had an uneven 2020 with 10 starts for the Baltimore Orioles with a 4.30 ERA.

He could be in for a season with a decent workload in 2021 as a potential number-three starter for Los Angeles. Cobb has pitched 150+ innings three times in his career.

Cobb seems to have rediscovered not only his fastball but better movement on that pitch. He has above-average stuff but injury and poor form have plagued him the previous two seasons. He enjoyed a solid 2018 and 2021 could prove to be an intriguing one.

More importantly, Joe Maddon sees some of the form Cobb had in his younger days for Tampa Bay. If Cobb can pitch as he did in spring training, the White Sox offense could have a long night on Saturday.

White Sox Career Stats vs Cobb

Player AB H HR RBI K AVG.
Jose Abreu 5 2 0 1 1 .400
Tim Anderson 3 2 0 2 0 .667
Adam Eaton 3 2 0 1 0 .667
Lenny Garcia 4 2 1 3 0 .500
Billy Hamilton 7 0 0 0 2 .000
Yoan Moncada 2 1 1 3 1 .500

Take the Angels

The White Sox roughed up Andrew Heaney but should have a tougher time against Cobb Saturday. The moneyline is at +110 for Los Angeles and may move a little bit because of Lynn and Chicago’s offensive outburst on Friday night.

If Los Angeles can score anywhere close to eight runs (even five or six), the expectation is that they will win this game. Neither bullpen was inspiring on Friday night but the Angels may take advantage of Lynn, who can rely too much on his fastball. The Angels on the moneyline is my pick.

Pick: Los Angeles Angeles ML (+110)
