Will Webb Defend His Belt?

James Webb (6-1-1) is coming off of a draw to Nathias Frederick back in June in his first title defense. It was a very entertaining close fight and they will immediately run it back. Before that, he won the vacant middleweight with a submission win over Thomas Robertson. The Englishman is 4-1-1 in Cage Warriors.

Nathias Frederick (7-2-1), like Webb, is coming off of the majority draw. Before that, he was on a seven-fight winning streak as he started his professional career out 0-2 and has rebounded nicely since then. In his last fight against Webb, it was the first time he fought for the Cage Warriors title as it was his debut in the promotion after fighting in other local promotions.

This was a phenomenal fight back in June at Cage Warriors: Night of Champions and it deserves to have an immediate rematch.

In this fight, just like the last, Webb will look to get this fight to the ground and show off his jiu-jitsu and look for a submission. For Frederick, he needs to look to connect on a big punch and score a knockout win. I think this fight will be very similar to the first fight with both fighters having moments in the scrap.

In the end, it will be Webb who will get his hand raised with either a decision win over a submission win later on in the fight to defend he title and possibly earn a UFC contract come 2020 when the Octagon returns to England.

Pick: James Webb (-265)

Mads Burnell vs. Steve Aimable Odds

Will Burnell Earn Another UFC Contract?

Mads Burnell (12-3) is riding a three-fight winning streak and is coming off of winning the Cage Warriors featherweight title with a submission win over Dean Trueman at CW 106. Before that, he submitted Ahmed Vila with a Japanese necktie, the same move he used to win the title,  and in his debut fight in the European-promotion, he earned a first-round submission win. In the UFC, he went 1-2 with losses to Michel Prazeres and Arnold Allen while beating Mike Santiago.

Steve Aimable (14-5) is on a four-fight winning streak and will be fighting for the title for the first time. On this winning streak, he has beaten the likes of Aidan Stephen, and Josh Abraham. The 32-year-old has been bouncing around regional shows but has stuck with Cage Warriors since 2018.

This should be another win for Mads Burnell who will have a massive advantage on the ground. The champions’ ground game and jiu-jitsu should not be taken lightly, and the 25-year-old should look to get this fight down to the ground right from the get-go.

For Aimable, he will have to use his jab and have solid takedown defense to keep Burnell at distance and implement his striking game. His cardio and pace should be a factor in this fight, but, I don’t think he will able to survive the wrestling and striking of Burnell. There is no reason Burnell should still not be in the UFC and I expect him to defend his featherweight title here and possibly earn another UFC contract.

Pick: Mads Burnell (-550)
