Hawkeyes vs Boilermakers Betting Trends

Sunday afternoon’s matchup marks the third meeting of the season between these Big Ten conference rivals. The Boilermakers swept the season series in decisive fashion, claiming victory by a combined margin of 17 points. That dominance was capped by an 83-73 win in Iowa as 2.5-point chalk on January 27.

Overall, Purdue has topped the Hawkeyes in six of seven meetings, covering on five occasions over that stretch. However, the Boilermakers have tallied just one win in six March meetings with Iowa. They are also winless in their past two trips to the Big Ten Tournament final.

There has been no shortage of scoring in recent clashes between these squads, with the total easily topping 140 in nine of their past 10 clashes. However, that has not produced steady results in totals betting, with the OVER going just 4-3-0 over their past seven dates.

Iowa Hawkeyes Eye First Title Since 2006

Seeded fifth in this year’s tournament after closing their regular season schedule alongside Rutgers with a 12-8 SU record in conference play, the Hawkeyes will be playing for their first title since their last victory in 2006.

Iowa has been dominant at times while racking up an 11-2 SU record over their past 13 contests. 10 of those wins came by double-digit margins. That has helped make this squad a reliable bet at the sportsbooks, where they have covered the spread in five straight outings before falling short of an ATS win in Saturday’s 80-77 semi-final victory over Indiana as 6-point chalk.

The Hawkeyes were forced to stave off a fierce second-half rally by the Hoosiers in what was their narrowest win since eking out a slim 1-point victory in Virginia early in the season. However, Iowa has remained a force after recess so far at this tournament, averaging 43.3 second-half points. The Hawkeyes also sit third in adjusted offensive efficiency at Kenpom.

The team leader with 23.4 points per game this season, Keegan Murray has remained dominant in Indianapolis. The sophomore big man led the squad with 32 points and nine rebounds in Saturday’s win, and has averaged 28 points per game so far at this year’s tournament.

Purdue Boilermakers Struggle Against the Spread

After spotting Michigan State an early lead, Purdue never looked back in Saturday’s tournament semi-final victory, riding a late 9-0 run to a 75-70 win. The victory extends the third-seeded Boilermakers’ current SU win streak to three games after claiming victory in just three of their previous six contests, and should bolster their position at +1600 in the March Madness championship odds.

Despite their success at this season’s tournament, the Boilermakers have remained a betting disappointment, Purdue has compiled a dismal 0-8-1 ATS record over their past nine contests, but has won and covered in four outings this season when pegged as betting chalk by fewer than three points.

However, it would be unwise to underestimate the Boilermakers attack, which is ranked second in the nation in adjusted offensive efficiency. Jaden Ivey led the charge in Saturday’s win, dropping 17 points, and has now averaged 18 points per game over his past five outings. Canadian big man Zach Edey has remained a force under the basket, averaging 14 points and 8.3 boards over his past three appearances.

Hawkeyes vs Boilermakers Prediction

Fans of high-scoring ball should enjoy Sunday’s contest. Look for these two teams to run up the score once again, with Purdue extending their head-to-head dominance in a narrow victory.

The Pick: Boilermakers -1 (-110); OVER 147.5 (-110)
