One Sportsbook Offering Plus Odds on Joe Burrow Being Selected First Overall in 2020 NFL Draft

Here’s a break down of the two prospects along with my pick for who will hear their name called first at the 2020 NFL Draft.

Will Heisman Favorite Joe Burrow Go #1?

Joe Burrow has long been the favorite to be picked first overall, and it makes sense. He’s a dream prospect at the quarterback position, standing 6’4, weighing a sturdy 216 pounds, and possessing scary accuracy. He has thrown 44 touchdowns and just six interceptions thanks to a 78.3 completion percentage which leads all of college football.

Numbers can be deceiving if a quarterback preys on weak opponents, but Burrow has saved his best performances for LSU’s toughest competition. Against LSU’s four top-10 opponents, Burrow has 11 touchdowns and two picks.

The Cincinnati Bengals will likely pick first overall and could absolutely use an upgrade at the quarterback position. Burrow played at Ohio State before transferring to LSU, making the Athens, Ohio native a perfect fit.

Chase Young Is a Franchise Altering Edge Rusher

Dominant edge rushers from Ohio State being selected in the top-three of the draft are becoming routine. Joey Bosa was taken third overall in 2016 and his brother Nick went second overall last year. The best of the three may be this year’s prospect, Chase Young.

After dominating Florida Atlantic in the opener, Lane Kiffin called Young a “predator” and that description has become more accurate as the season has gone on. Young leads college football with 16.5 sacks and seven forced fumbles despite missing two games due to suspension.

Young was a legitimate Heisman candidate before a quiet performance in Ohio State’s 29-point win over Michigan. With the Big Ten Championship and potentially two more playoff games to impress NFL scouts, it’s entirely possible he goes number-one overall.

The common belief is he is the best prospect, but as well all know, that doesn’t necessarily mean going first overall with such an emphasis on finding the next franchise quarterback.

Many Different Betting Options Available

For my money, I think Burrow is the pick and the fact he’s getting plus money is solid value. I do believe Young is the best prospect, but a QB-needy team will take Burrow, likely the Bengals.

One other thing to consider, if you’re more conservative, is betting both players. If you put equal bets down on both, you guarantee a profit as long as a dark horse like Georgia offensive lineman Andrew Thomas doesn’t go first overall.
