After losing in their first qualifying matches, Slovenia and Switzerland will both be looking for their first win in Group E of the Euro 2016 qualifiers. The match will take place Thursday, October 9, at the Ljudski Stadium in Maribor, Slovenia at 14:45 ET.

Slovenia and Switzerland have met each other seven times before, and Switzerland leads the series (5W, 1D, 1L). The Swiss are favored to win on Thursday: the money line has a Switzerland win at +140, a Slovenia victory at +220, and a draw at +200.

After losing to England at home (2-0), Swiss defender Johan Djourou said they have enough talent to qualify for Euro 2016, but that they will have to improve many aspects of their game in order to beat Slovenia, including getting their new coach’s schemes in order. “I think there are many things to improve. There is a new coach, a new philosophy, and there is a lot of things for everyone to take on board. The team has a lot of talent; we showed that at the World Cup, and we have to continue like this, working hard”, said Djourou.

On the other side, the Slovenia head coach, Srečko Katanec, said his team must rise from their 1-0 defeat against Estonia as soon as possible. “Our shooting wasn’t that great, and we didn’t score, but the organization of our game was fine. We have nine more matches. You can’t qualify after the opening game, and you can’t be knocked out either”, reflected Katanec, optimistically.

As both teams are sitting on zero points, they are tied at the bottom of Group E. England, Estonia, Lithuania, and San Marino are the other teams in this group.
