Riske battled a lot of injuries earlier this year, which didn’t allow for her to gain much momentum. But she’s managed to find herself a bit, as she’s shown more consistency in the past few months.
She’ll look to end her year on a high note, by winning a title. But the 23-year old will be a tough opponent for Riske, who’s still trying to get back to the form she was once in.
Lucky Loser to the Final
Not only did Cristian enter this tournament as a lucky loser and make it to the final, this is also her first career tour level final.
Much like her final opponent, Riske, Cristian’s semifinal opponent also withdrew from their match. Cristian was set to face her toughest opponent to date, second seed Simona Halep, but Halep withdrew from the match prior to the start due to a knee injury.
But heading into that semifinal match, Cristian did upset fifth seed Veronika Kudermetova, defeating her in straight sets, winning 6-3, 7-6(5).
Riske will be a tough opponent for Cristian, but as mentioned above, neither player were the expected ones to be here/
Head-to-Head
This will be the first meeting between these two players, as their head-to-head record sits at 0-0.

The biggest edge here could be experience. On paper it’s pretty obvious that Riske is the more experienced player, but the counter is the year record Cristian has put up in comparison to Riske. Riske entered this tournament with a 11-16 record on the season, and Cristian a 33-24 record.
Both players are incredibly strong, and rely heavily on their serve. Riske is so quick and sharp with her shots, that it has the ability to cause Cristian off balance. Based on what we’ve seen this week, Cristian is definitely the more aggressive player of the two, and this could be a surprise to Riske.
Putting that aside, the momentum on the year is definitely favorable towards Cristian. But Cristian’s biggest challenge might be herself in this match. If she’s able to control any nerves that she might have in this unfamiliar territory, she has the ability to win her maiden title and defeat Riske.
Best Bet: Cristian (+170)
