After going a respectable 8-8 last season, the Miami Dolphins are gearing up for a coming out party of sorts in the 2014 season. Mind you, the team last year was still able to go .500 despite dealing with the Richie Incognito drama.

Coach Joe Philbin is hoping QB Ryan Tannehill will have a breakout season. Last year’s offense was ranked 20th in passing and 28th in rushing. The former was disappointing after the addition of the high-priced free agent Mike Wallace was supposed to turn Tannehill into Roethlisberger.

The team hopes to help Tannehill with first round selection offensive lineman Ja’Wuan James and second round pick wide receiver Jarvis Landry.

On the defensive side of the ball, the team lacked any playmakers ranking 16th against the pass and 24th against the run. Then again, if the offense produces, mediocrity could get the job done.

Looking to this season, the Dolphins face six playoff teams with an overall schedule featuring opponents boasting a .508 winning percentage last year (12th toughest in the league). Furthermore, the Dolphins will be playing two sets of back-to-back road games.

Oddsmakers have the Dolphins posted at 8 for o/u wins with a payout of -130 for the over. You may also find them at 7.5 with payout of -135 for the under. Invariably, if a team is poised to challenge Tom Brady and company, Miami could fit that bill.
