  • DreamHack Open Rio kicks off April 19th
  • Will Valiance continue their winning ways in Brazil?
  • Can the hometown boys claim the title?

DreamHack Open Rio begins April 19th in Brazil and will showcase eight lower tier teams, some of which certainly have the potential to crack top-10 in the world rankings. Though no premier teams will be in attendance, the people of Brazil are still in store for some great Counterstrike.

Fresh off of winning the United Masters League, Valiance head into DreamHack Rio as the favorites with a few teams close behind. Will their hot streak continue in Brazil? Are they rightfully the favorite to claim the title in Rio? Let’s start by taking a look at the odds.

Will Valiance keep it Going?

After an impressive showing at the EU Minor for IEM Katowice, Valiance proved that they are the real deal and have the potential to become a top team in the world. Since then the EU squad managed to almost make the finals of WESG and they also beat winners of WESG, Windigo in the final of the United Masters League in March.

huNter, the highest rated player on Valiance, is actually the cousin of NiKo, one of the greatest players in CSGO history.

There is a decent amount of hype over this team, not only because of what they have showcased in the few events they have attended, but also because of the relation of one of their members. huNter, the highest rated player on Valiance, is actually the cousin of NiKo, one of the greatest players in CSGO history, and the #3 player on the HLTV top 20 ranking in 2018.

Though it is not a for sure thing by any means that Valiance come out on top in Rio, I think it is more than likely what’s going to end up happening. They have shown that they are a serious threat to take down pretty much any team, and with the skill level not being quite top tier at DreamHack Rio they should be able to take back-to-back titles.

Pick: Valiance (+300)

Who Else Will Still Be Standing Come Sunday?

Since I think Valiance will take the entire tournament, it’s time to look at their prospective opponent come Sunday. The two teams that I believe stand the best chance to make their way all the way to the finals are Furia and AVANGAR.

Furia will be firing on all cylinders in Rio, as they will be trying to win one for their home crowd. They are a team that also proved in the Katowice Minor that they are the real deal and can hang with some of the best teams in the world.

Headlined by who many have dubbed as the next Coldzera in kscerato, they certainly have the talent to take the title in their own backyard and the crowd support may just be the key factor to push them to their first ever notable championship. They are definitely one to be looked at seriously not only to make the finals, but possibly even to win the event.

Furia will be firing on all cylinders in Rio, as they will be trying to win one for their home crowd.

AVANGAR, on the other hand, have shown over the past year and some change that they are good enough to be considered a top-15 team in the world. Lead by their AWP/IGL hybrid, Jame, the CIS squad for sure has the capability to not only reach the finals, but also win the event.

It’s a real tossup between Valiance, Furia, and AVANGAR as to who will take the tournament, but it’s almost a given that the final will be made up of a combination of the three.

Picks: Valiance (-105), AVANGAR (+150)

Region to Win DreamHack Open Rio

Region DreamHack Open Rio Region Odds
EU -175
Americas +135

Which Region Will Reign Supreme?

The event may be taking place on Brazilian soil, but I think it’s more than likely we see a European squad end up hoisting the trophy when all is said and done. Furia stands the only real chance of winning here for any of the teams representing the Americas, but I’m not fully sold they’ll be able to find the “W” over either Valiance or AVANGAR.

They will certainly have the cheers going in their favor throughout DreamHack Rio, but I don’t think the crowd support will be enough to elevate them over any of the European teams in attendance.

Pick: EU (-175)
