As we get back to NASCAR iRacing this weekend, the mood has been somber given Kyle Larson’s use of a racial slur and him being subsequently fired over it.

Now the drivers shift to virtual Richmond Raceway for Sunday’s Toyota Owners 150 Presented By Toyota, where Will Byron is favored. Is he the best bet or is there value elsewhere?

eNASCAR Returns After Easter Break

NASCAR iRacing was on a break last week as the drivers were off for the Easter holiday. Now they’re back for the iRacing event at virtual Richmond Raceway. We’re looking at a field of 26 drivers in the fourth race of the season and the raceway in the game tracks closely the one in real life.

We’ve had a bit of a change in format, which you should be aware of if you’re betting on this race. To start, there is no qualifying or heats to set the starting grid. Also, the 26 drivers in this field represents a drop in competitors as we saw nine more in the first three races.

For those interested, the Xfinity Series is launching this Saturday with their esports races.

Timmy Hill Has Been Consistent

There’s no question that the field is mostly stacked with professional NASCAR drivers as it appears that 26 of the 29 will be pros. However, of the three esports entrants, Timmy Hill has proven to be among the most consistent drivers – and maybe the best bet – so far.

Hill finished third at the Dixie Vodka 150 race, then followed that up by winning the O’Reilly Auto Parts 125 Pro Series, and then placed third at the Food City Showdown presented by M&M’s at Bristol a couple of weeks ago. He’s been so close each week that’s he’s probably the best bet once again.

Will Byron Favored

Byron is coming off a win at the last race and could easily be rolling in on a two-race winning streak. He was leading the O’Reilly Auto Parts 125 Pro Series race (the second race of the season) late before Timmy Hill edged in front. Byron has really got the hang of this and has proven to be a serious contender.

The different between Byron and Hill the last couple of races is the amount of laps led. It really looks like Byron has figured things out as he led 116 laps en route to the win at Bristol and 80 of the laps at Texas. Hill has only led nine laps in that entire span.

What’s the Best Bet?

It looks like these two are the top contenders right now but I’d go with Hill at +500. He’s finished no worse than third in the three races, so we should get a good showing out of him. If Byron dominates again this weekend, we’ll have to reevaluate the strategy later. For now, Hill is my play.
