The College World Series continues on Sunday, as #2 Florida takes on unseeded Oral Roberts. Both teams are fresh off dramatic 9th inning victories in their opening game, but online sportsbooks aren’t expecting this contest to be very competitive.

 Florida vs Oral Roberts Odds

Team Moneyline Runline Total
Florida Gators -300 -2.5 (-110) O 12 (-110)
Oral Roberts Golden Eagles +235 +2.5 (-120) U 12 (-120)

They’ve pegged the Gators as massive -300 moneyline favorites, in a contest with a total of 12. Florida is also laying 2.5 runs on the runline, which feels incredibly disrespectful to the red-hot Golden Eagles.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 pm ET at Charles Schwab Field, in Omaha, Nebraska, with ESPN2 and ESPN+ providing the broadcast coverage.

Florida vs Oral Roberts Probable Pitchers

The Gators will give the ball to Hurston Waldrep, who’s been sensational in the NCAA Tournament so far. He’s fresh off back-to-back quality starts, leaving enemy hitters shaking their heads along the way.

Last time out, he scattered three hits over 8 shutout innings in a victory over South Carolina in the Super Regionals. He struck out 13 Gamecocks on the night, against only two walks. He was nearly as dominant in Regional action in his previous start, yielding only five hits and one run to Connecticut, while striking out 12.

Florida has won each of his last four starts and six straight games overall. They just held Virginia, the league’s number one lineup to five runs in their CWS opener, and are averaging only two runs allowed over their winning streak.

Waldrep vs Gollert Stats

VS
Harley Gollert
9-3 Record 10-1
4.15 ERA 4.30
142 Strikeouts 88
48 Walks 31

Oral Roberts will counter with Harley Gollert. The Canadian has looked abysmal in his last two starts, getting roughed up by both Washington and Oregon in the NCAA Tournament.

Last time out, the Ducks tagged him for six hits, two homers and five runs over 4.2 innings, while the Huskies chased him after only two-thirds of an inning in his previous start. Gollert gave up six hits, two dingers and seven runs that night, and he’s had major issues keeping the ball in the yard lately.

Over his last three outings, he’s surrendered six home runs, after allowing only two homers in his previous six starts. That spells trouble against the Gators, who boast one of the most potent lineups in college baseball.

Florida vs Oral Roberts Predictions

Florida has cranked 160 home runs this year, 62 more than Oral Roberts. They hit three in their opening CWS victory over Virginia, including two in the 9th as part of a three-run walk off victory.

The win was their 21st come from behind victory of the season, and fourth of the walk off variety. Player of the Year candidate Jac Caglianone is the team’s biggest threat with 31 dingers this year, but as they proved versus the Cavaliers, the whole lineup is dangerous.

Florida’s top four hitters combined to go 2-for-17. The bottom of the order picked up the slack, as did pinch hitter Ty Evans, who started the 9th inning rally with a solo bomb.

The Golden Eagles are more than capable of keeping up with the Gators offensively. Oral Roberts is hitting .322 as a team this season, scoring six or more times in 12 straight contests. They’ve scored at least eight runs in nine of those games, and have lost just once in their past 25 outings.

Jonah Cox is the team’s number one offensive threat, batting .412 with 11 home runs this season. He was riding a ridiculous 47-game hitting streak entering the College World Series, but had it snapped in the opener by TCU.

Oral Roberts erased a three-run 9th inning deficit versus the Horned Frogs in that game, keyed by a Blaze Brothers three-run go ahead home run. Overcoming big deficits is nothing new to this team, as they just overcame an 8-0 deficit versus Washington in the Stillwater Regional, a game also started by Gollert.

This matchup has all the makings of a high-scoring affair, which fits exactly how the Golden Eagles are used to playing. Each of their past 13 games have produced double-digit runs, with seven of those contests exceeding 13 runs.

Picks: Over 12 Runs (-110), Oral Roberts +2.5 (-120)
