After more than a month off, the PGA Tour resumes its 2021-22 season for the winners-only Sentry Tournament of Champions. The field consists of only the champions from the 2021 calendar year, with 39 players teeing it up. The lone exception is Rory McIlroy, who opted not to participate.

This is one of the stronger fields in recent memory, with reigning US Open champion Jon Rahm heading it up, followed by two-time Sentry winner Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay, who took home three titles last year. Harris English returns as defending champion.

Going low is imperative for success around this track, which is a rare par-73 course. Six of the last seven champions have shot at least 21-under-par en route to victory. The last three iterations has seen two playoffs and one title won by just one stroke.

Xander Schauffele Loves Kapalua

In his three years playing this track, Xander Schauffele has been outstanding, grabbing the title in 2019 in his first try. He then followed that up with another near miss in 2020, where a three-putt on the 72nd hole led to a playoff, which he lost. That week, he was first in SG: tee-to-green and around the green.

Then last year, Schauffele fared well again at Kapalua, completing a hat-trick of top-five finishes in his first three attempts. He’s into this event by virtue of his gold medal at the Olympics, and sports +1400 odds to win outright. He has longer odds than the top-six players on the board, making him an enticing player to wager on, given his record on these grounds.

1. Sungjae Im (+2200): Last season’s birdie leader on the PGA Tour is well suited for this track, where going low is essential. Had a strong showing in his debut Sentry TOC in 2021, finishing T-5th, where he was first that week in strokes gained: tee-to-green. Won three starts ago at the Shriners Children’s Open, then posted back-to-back top-20’s to close out the year.
2. Brooks Koepka (+2500): Trying to figure out which Brooks Koepka will show up any given week is difficult. Will he be the dominant four-time major champ or not contend at all? There are 15 golfers with shorter odds than him this week, so the value is too good to pass up.
3. Patrick Reed (+3000): While he didn’t finish 2021 as well as he’d like, he did have a runner-up three starts ago at the Bermuda Championship. Past champion here, having won in 2015, and has had a pair of second place showings, in 2016, and then two years ago, losing in a playoff.
