Five new KBO series begin Thursday at 5:30 am EST and my attention is immediately drawn to the KT Wiz versus LG matchup. The two clubs, which sit fifth and fourth respectively in the standings, are both fresh off high scoring victories and Thursday’s matchup projects to produce a lot of runs as well.

 KBO Odds: Thursday, August 27th

Hanwha Eagles -104 +1.5 (-168) Under 9.5 (-110)

Odds as of Aug. 26th.

That’s because each team is trotting out a starter with serious warts. KT Wiz’s Min Soo Kim is 2-5 with a 6.18 ERA, while LG starter Yun Sik Kim has been roughed up in five straight starts.

Expect A Lot of Scoring

The Suwon offense has been firing on all cylinders recently, scoring six or more runs in three of their past four. They recently completed a two-game sweep of first place NC, in which they crossed the plate 18 times, hitting four home runs along the way.

They should feast on Yun Sik Kim, just like the previous five teams he’s started against. The left-hander has allowed four or more runs in all but one start this year, and has yet to make it out of the 6th inning.

Min Soo Kim meanwhile, has allowed 24 runs in his last five outings and has given up six runs in 6.2 innings versus LG this season.

The total for this game looks very high on paper, but it’s a number that the two teams have exceeded in two of their last three meetings.

Pick: Over 11.5 (+100)

KIA Smashes Versus SK

One of the teams just behind KT Wiz and LG in the standings is KIA. The Tigers took down the Doosan Bears on Wednesday, and have dominated the SK Wyverns this season. KIA is 7-2 versus SK, outscoring them by a total of 19 runs over their nine meetings.

The Tigers will give the ball to Ki Young Im, who is fresh off shutting down the Dinos in his last start. He held NC to one run and just two hits over 6 innings, while striking out eight. He’s faced the Wyverns once this season and it was a thing of beauty. He scattered three hits over 6 shutout innings and stuck out six, en route to a KIA victory.

SK will counter with Seung Won Moon, who was shelled in his last outing. The 30-year-old surrendered six runs in 4.2 innings against Samsung, marking the second time in his last four starts that he’s allowed at least five runs.

Moon had an excellent stretch of outings between June and mid-July, but lately his command has abandoned him. He has walked just as many batters (8) as he’s struck out over his last three starts, and he’s given up five home runs in his last four outings.

Pick: KIA Tigers moneyline (-110)
